The undead of Lordaeron inWorld of Warcraftseem to be headed towards a much-needed rebranding, as imagery of the Banshee Queen is slowly being replaced by a new symbol more befitting of the new Forsaken. While most players are happy thatWorld of Warcraftis moving on from Sylvanas Windrunner, for most of their history the Forsaken of Lordaeron were inextricably tied to the fallen Ranger-General of Quel’Thalas, and Sylvanas' shadow loomed over the undead until her final defeat atop Oribos, culminating in a somewhatcontroversial fate in the final patch ofShadowlands.
The unique thing aboutDragonflightis that it gives its narrative some much-needed breathing room, as the latestWorld of Warcraftexpansion features a time skiplonger than its predecessors, truly signifying a fresh chapter in theWarcraftsaga. With changes headed towards Azeroth outside the Dragon Isles, many players are hoping that Blizzard is slowly testing the waters for a full-fledged remake of the original continents, as many iconicWorld of Warcraftzones are still stuck in an unresolved disaster state that feel out-of-place in a post-Cataclysmworld.

Among a myriad of items coming inDragonflight’s Embers of Neltharion patch, the popular database website Wowhead came across two Forsaken tabards that hint at the new political reality for the undead citizens of Lordaeron established in the years betweenShadowlandsandDragonflight. The first tabard features a new Forsaken symbol depicting the Desolate Council and its five members: Calia Menethil, Lilian Voss, Deathstalker Commander Belmont, Dark Ranger Velonara, and Master Apothecary Faranell. The other, however, is a curious update on the original shattered mask that represented Sylvanas Windrunner, implying the existence of a splinter faction of Sylvanas Loyalists that stand in opposition of the Desolate Council.
While two new tabards are hardly enough to fuel excitement for a revamp of Azeroth,World of Warcraftplayers have unsurprisingly latched onto the idea that Blizzard is setting the stage early. Considering that a major sideplot inDragonflightinvolves a new World Tree being planted off the shores of the Dragon Isles in Ohn’ahran Plains, there is hope that the developers are finally taking the overarching story inWorld of Warcrafttowards a long-demanded destination.
With Embers of Neltharion still being months away, fans will have ample opportunity to be surprised by what its Public Test Realm build may have.
