Many weapons inElden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtreedeal a status effect build-up on top of doing base damage when attacking enemies. Status effects range in how effective they are and their build-up varies based on the enemy’s resistance to that effect.
Shadow Of The Erdtreeadds a new status effect known as Eternal Sleep, which is what makes the Velvet Sword of St. Trina so unique. This weapon can be found after breaking the seal when approaching the Shadow Keep, with most players needing to try this weapon out at least once.

Updated On July 14th, 2024 By Joshua Leeds:While the Velvet Sword of St. Trina doesn’t have the highest attack stat, its main selling point is building up Eternal Sleep. There are additional ways to players to inflict Eternal Sleep on an enemy that should also be utilized by those making this weapon the center of their build. This article has been updated to help players further use Eternal Sleep and use this weapon to its fullest potential.
Where To Find The Velvet Sword Of St. Trina In Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree
The Velvet Sword Of St. Trina is found in the Stone Coffin Fissure in the southern section of the map, and will first require theGreat Rune to be broken. From here, traverse the Stone Coffin Fissure until you reach the Fissure Cross Site of Grace towards the end. At this Site of Grace, look northwest and begin approaching the edge of the cliff.
Look over the edge to find a stone platform to jump down to. There should be a mix of rocks and stones that players can continue to drop down to, with each dropnot dealing any fall damagedespite how high up it may seem. On the lowest level, proceed east under the fallen stone pillar and take the path to the left, where three slimes will drop from the ceiling. Behind those slimes will be a dead body that can be looted to obtain the Velvet Sword Of St. Trina.

The biggest and only important selling point for this weapon is the Eternal Sleep buildup. Just as the name implies, this status effectputs basic enemies to sleep, never to wake up again, no matter how long or how many hits they take. This weapon can still put bosses or elite enemies to sleep, but the results will be closer to that of theregular sleep status effect.
Resting at a site of grace will reset all enemies including those affected by Eternal Sleep.
This is a unique weapon with its own skill, Mists of Eternal Sleep. This skill not only deals with a lot of Eternal Sleep build-up but also leaves the sword coated in purple mist. The mist willlast for a short time and deal extra Eternal Sleep build-up on enemies hit.
Building Up Eternal Sleep
Every hit from this weapon builds up Eternal Sleep a bit. Without the skill, the build up is incredibly small, and most enemies will be killed before Eternal Sleep actually takes effect. Theskill Mists of Eternal Sleep swings very slowly, but coats the weapon in a mist that increases the build-up of Eternal Sleep on subsequent hits for a short time after the skill is used.
Against faster enemies or other players, it’s sometimes best to use this skill as a buff instead of an actual attack as the long animation will leave you open. Players should also considercrafting and using Eternal Sleep Pots, as the range on this sword is very small andthese pots give a ranged option to continue the same status effectand keep the effect from diminishing when trying to build it up.
