Multiplayer might not be the first thingAssassin’s Creedfans think of when the franchise pops into their heads, but it has a history with the series, being a popular game mode for players, especially inAssassin’s Creed RevelationsandBrotherhood. Despite Ubisoft essentially shutting down multiplayer inAssassin’s Creedearlier this year, it seems the company is interested in reviving the idea, as shown in its recent financial earnings report. Through this report, it was made clear thatAssassin’s Creed Invictuswill be a standalone multiplayer title, and the development team includes multiplayer veterans who previously worked onFor Honor. Also, it was revealed thatInvictuswill be accessed throughAssassin’s Creed Infinity, Ubisoft’s new platform for launching titles in the series.

It wasn’t revealed in the earnings report what stage of developmentAssassin’s Creed Invictusis in, but considering work on it has just been officially confirmed by Ubisoft with these new details, it’s unlikely fans will be getting the title anytime soon. The fact thatInvictusis in development means the total amount ofAssassin’s Creedtitles being worked on has been bumped up to five. Four of these games, includingAssassin’s Creed Redwhich finally brings the series to feudal Japan, will be a part ofInfinity.

An interesting detail aboutAssassin’s Creed Invictusis the fact thatFor Honordevelopers are working on it. This means that the gameplay of the oldAssassin’s Creedmultiplayer mode could be swapped out for a better focus on melee combat. This may disappoint some fans who preferred the stealthier approach, but for those who want a return to the franchise’s past, its latest titleAssassin’s Creed Mirageis looking to bring the series back to its rootsbefore the monumental launch ofInfinfity.
