Minions: The Rise of Gruis one of the most anticipated animated movie releases in quite some time. Fans love how endearing the Minions are, and the fact that Gru’s backstory is also explored in this movie is the cherry on top of a truly entertaining experience. The movie is full to the brim withclever visual gagsand the usual Minion shenanigans that these beloved characters find themselves in time and time again.
While animated movies for children don’t tend to place realism as a high priority, there are times whenMinions: The Rise of Gruseems a bit too ridiculous to be believable. The following moments are perhaps the most egregious examples of nonsensical things to happen in the movie.

8The Flight Scene Is Hilarious… And Impractical
The scene where the Minions take over the flight to San Francisco isone of the most laugh-out-loud moments in the series. The Minions go wild as they try to steer the plane while calming down anxious passengers as well.

The manner in which the plane files around before landing in the most dramatic fashion possible is pretty hilarious, even though it’s absolutely impractical. The multiple crash-worthy angles of the plane are indicative enough of this. No person without flight school training would be able to even keep the plane in the air, let alone stick the landing!
7Otto Performing Evil Knievel’s Stunt On A Tricycle
Otto isone of the funnier characters in the movie, albeit because of his negligence and stupidity. After messing up and losing the Zodiac Stone, he decides to redeem himself by chasing down the man who had the stone single-handedly.
He achieved this by using a tricycle to chase down a man on a motorcycle. The fact that he manages to keep up with a motorized vehicle’s pace is impressive enough as is, but the fact that he sticks the landing for a stunt that Evil Knievel fails is simply too ridiculous to believe.

6Grabbing The Zodiac Stone From Under The Supervillains' Noses
The Vicious 6 is one of the most diabolical villain groups in the entire series who have carried out some truly heinous and impressive plans. However, their allure definitely takes a hit whena young Gru managed to fool them in their own backyard

While taking auditions for a new member of the Vicious 6, Gru finds the perfect opportunity to steal the Zodiac Stone using his first villain gadget. The fact that this villain group belittled Gru before this heist made them look like total nincompoops, which is not a great look for a villain group that prides itself on its effectiveness.
5Wild Knuckles Keeps Crocodiles That Want To Eat Him
Wild Knuckles is a legendary supervillain that Gru looks up to as a child. This obsession reaches a whole new level when he ends up getting kidnapped by said villain…only to relish the idea of being captured by his idol.
It’s an odd abduction withmany hilarious moments of its own, including one where Gru is tasked with cleaning Wild Knuckles' pool…only to find a bunch of deadly crocodiles in it. The fact that these creatures are hostile to Gru himself shows just how boneheaded this idea really was.

4The Minions Becoming Kung-Fu Experts Out Of Nowhere
The montage where the Minions learn kung-fu isone of the more hilarious moments in the movie. The fact all these three goofballs leave the tutelage of their master without realizing that they’re barely ready to tackle the horrors that await them is quite funny…and also leads to one of the more ridiculous moments in the movie.
After being turned into ineffective animals, the Minions somehow manage to channel their inner strength and become masters of kung-fu in the final confrontation. It’s a memorable moment that also spells a massive leap in logic that’s hard to justify.

3Otto Trading The Zodiac Stone For A Pet Rock
Otto has already been mentioned on this list, but his bad decisions deserve a second look. All the Minions know how important the Zodiac Stone is for Gru, and they always tried their hardest to make his villainous plans a reality.

So, when Otto reveals that he traded the powerful Zodiac Stone for a useless Pet Rock, it’s easy to see why everyone is mad at him. Thankfully, he redeems himself with his actions throughout the film and helps Gru and the rest survive their encounter against a souped-up Vicious 6.
2The Movie Bungles Gru’s Age With A Minor Error
This is a pretty minor error, but a mistake that needs to be pointed out regardless. In the firstDespicable Mefilm, it’s established that Gru was born on June 13, 2025.
Theevents ofMinions: The Rise of Grustate that he’s 11 and three-quarters years old, which is odd given that this movie is set around Jun 08, 2025 — this can be discerned from the Chinese New Year celebations. This means that Gru was actually born in April 1964, which makes for a pretty big gap from his supposed actual birthdate.

1Minions In Wild Knuckles' Casket Despite Gru’s Surprise That He’s Alive
Near the end of the movie, everyone is duped into believing that Wild Knuckles passed away after the grueling last battle. However, during his speech, Gru sees his idol in the background, well and alive.
This is rather odd since the Minions were already present in Wild Knuckles' casket before the reveal that he was alive. Surely the Minions wouldn’t defile this corpse since they would also be unaware about the same fact?
