Sony has adapted several identifiable patterns and strategies withPS Plusover the years, but it seems intent on breaking those traditions now. For example, the PS Plus games released in March tend to be some of the best every year, withBloodbornebeing a prime example of a game given away in March. However, while the PS Plus free games for March 2023 were solid, they didn’t hold a candle to the past. At the same time,PS Plus' free games for April 2023had to live down that past too—because they often followed major games, the best games given away in April, historically, may have been good but never great.
That’s out the window this month, because April’s selection forPS Plusis a great month all the way around and especially in comparison to past years. But because of that, Sony is certainly aware that expectations may be even higher going forward.

Raising the Bar for PS Plus in April Means Raising the Bar Everywhere
A rising tide lifts all boats, and PS Plus' April selection is certainly a rising tide. Not only does this set a new tone for April moving forward, but it also raises expectations for any following months this year. With thePS Plus games for March, arguably, being the worst month so far and April elevating itself, it seems that PS Plus could have stronger months throughout the year. Now, that doesn’t mean fans can expect every month to be for them or can’t expect for a month or two to be weaker than even March, but that the bar has been raised.
It’ll be interesting to see if this tide stays high or if it settles back into the norm of late last year in the coming months. However, PS Plus has always been fond of patterns and, if April is any indication,PS Plus could be repeating its hot streak of late 2020/early 2021.
