The Callisto Protocolhas officially announced that a new patch is out. Update 1.08 brings a lot of fixes that alleviate some of the myriad problems which plaguedThe Callisto Protocol’s release.

The Callisto Protocolis a new survival horror game directed by Glen Schofield, who helped create theacclaimedDead Spacehorror games. On release,The Callisto Protocolplayers experienced a variety of issues, particularly related to performance. Many players reported stuttering frame rates, black screens, and even game crashes, causing some players to declare the game unplayable. Given how highly anticipatedThe Callisto Protocolwas, these issues were a disappointment for many people. Ultimately, the director chalked it up to a “clerical error,” and promised to fix the problems as quickly as possible.

The latestupdate forThe Callisto Protocolwas announced on the game’s official Twitter account. The tweet said that players should look for “combat improvements, performance and stability fixes, localization options, and general quality of life changes.” As of yet,TheCallisto Protocolhas not released any concrete patch notes with detailed changes, but players are reporting seeing improvements in the areas mentioned. One of the specific fixes confirmed by the official Twitter account, however, is that PS4 trophies will now sync via PSN.

Having such a quick response is great to see from developer Striking Distance Studios. This was a much-anticipated release for horror game fans, and experiencing so many problems as to make the game unplayable is no doubt a huge disappointment for many. If theCallisto Protocolteam continues to roll out rapid patches that fix the issues making players unable to enjoy the game, however, it could go a long way toward restoring goodwill and changing some of thenegative user reviewsThe Callisto Protocolreceived on Steam.

Admittedly, big games releasing with a veritable host of bugs and performance issues does not seem to be a rarity lately. BlamingThe Callisto Protocol’s launch issues on a clerical errordoes seem like something of a cop out excuse, though. Players have a right to be disgruntled, since they paid $60 USD or more only to get a game that they could barely play. With that said, the quick acknowledgment of the problems and apparent dedication to rolling out fixes in order to give players a better gaming experience could go a long way toward changing fans' minds about the game.
