PokemonScarlet and Violetmay not have been out for long, but players who have completed the games are eager to continue their journey with DLC. The Pokemon Company nor Game Freak has yet to announce expansion passes forPokemonScarlet and Violet, but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating where the ninth generation is heading.

One region that has been on the minds of many is Kalos fromPokemon X and Y. It’s one of the few regions to have never been revisited in the mainline series, and seeing as there are a ton of hints dotted around Paldea to the region’s existence it’s likely that future DLC will bring the focus back on the French-inspired area.
10Paldea May Be Joined To Kalos Like France And Spain
When looking at the in-game map forScarlet and Violet,there are two shaded areas, but only one is accessible. For some unknown reason, the Great Crater of Paldea doesn’t show up on the map even when the player is in there. There’s another grayed-out portion to the upper northeast of the map. But unlike the Great Crater, this area is completely inaccessible and is blocked off by a mountain. Even if players try to enter the site on land or by sea, an invisible wall prevents them from doing so.
IfScarlet and Violetfollow in the footsteps ofPokemon Sword and Shieldin terms of DLC, this is likely where it will take place. And seeing as this area is split by a mountain range, this could be a major hint that Kalos is on the other side, seeing as the border between Spain and France is straddled by the Pyrenees.
9Scarlet And Violet’s DLC Could Be In Southern France
Kalos is based in Northern France, leaving a big gap between its border and Paldea. While many fans would love to see Northern Kalos again, it’s more likely that Southern Kalos will appear with towns inspired by Bordeaux, Nice, and Monte Carlo.

The DLC area may not even be Kalos at all, asTwitter user SoulSilverArtnotes that Barcelona, Catalonia, and Andorra are not included in the current Paldea map. If these Spanish cities were to appear in DLC, the zoned-off area’s location would make sense geographically.
8Many Pokemon From Kalos Have Made A Home In Paldea
Of the 400 Pokemon in Paldea, 28 are initially found in Kalos. While this number is lower than the nearly 40 Pokemon from Johto that appear inScarlet and Violet, it’s still a considerable amount to appear in a brand-new region.
Themajority of Kalos Pokemonthat have returned are fan favorites too, including the Fletching and Goomy lines, in addition to Skiddo and Gogoat, which have made their first appearance in a mainline game since they were first introduced inX and Ywithout having to be traded or transferred from Pokemon Bank. Even the Vivillon players can catch in Paldea is unique, having been an event-exclusive pattern previously.
7These Trainers And Their Pokemon Could Be A Major Hint
In Area One of the North Province, players will come across three sisters on a lake just to the left of the zoned-out region. Describing themselves as the dragon’s wings, breath, and tail, Paldea, Gema, and Diana areDragon-type trainerswith a team consisting of only one Pokemon: a fully-evolved dragon type from Kalos. Paldea leads with a Noivern, Gema battles with a Dragalge, and Diana sends out a Goodra.
And while their character design is generalized to the Dragon trainer class of Paldea, they just so happen to use two of the Pokemon used by Drasna, the Dragon-type trainer of the Kalos Elite Four.
6These Kalos Pokemon Are Mysteriously Near The Border
When traversing the land below the out-of-bounds area, players will encounter a suspicious amount of Pokemon from the Kalos region. Noibat and Noivern are very active in Area Two of the North Province at night, and Hawlucha is a common sight during the day. Floette can also be found further down the mountainous area, in addition to Gogoat and Sawsbuck.

Because some of these Pokemon can fly and traverse mountains, these Pokemon could have flown or migrated over from the yet-to-be-disclosed region on the other side.
5Eiscue Has Traveled A Long Distance To Arrive In Paldea
Across the North Paldean sea and beaches of the North Province, gamers will find an abundance of Eiscue while exploringViolet. Introduced inPokemon Sword and Shield, Eiscue’s Pokedex entry inVioletsays that the “species rode here on ocean currents from a cold, faraway land.“Exclusive toShield,Eiscue is found on Route 10, the Lake of Outrage in Galar, and the Frigid Sea inThe Crown TundraDLC.
While the Lake of Outrage is in the Wild Area, Route 10 sits in the upper portion of Galar and fits the bill for a “cold, faraway land.” Eiscue’s presence on the warm shores of Paldea doesn’t necessarily point toward Kalos being reintroduced inScarlet and Violet’sDLC. Still, it does solidify Paldea being near Galar and, therefore, Kalos, as the three regions are collectively based on the United Kingdom, France, and Spain.
4Pokemon X And Y Have Been Given The Least Amount Of Love
Unlike most Pokemon games,X and Ywere never given a second set of games. Released in 2013 betweenBlack 2 and White 2andOmega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, many fans were expecting a sequel in the form ofPokemon Zrelating to the legendary Pokemon Zygarde introduced in generation six. Instead, Game Freak went straight into developingPokemon Sun and Moon,leavingX and Yin the dust.
Zygarde received a significant amount of love inPokemonSun and Moon, withplayers collecting 100 Zygarde cellsto create different forms of the Pokemon.
3This Legendary Could Make A Return In Scarlet And Violet
In both theScarlet and Violetbooks, there’s a chapter dedicated to a “strange” disc-shaped Pokemon composed of interlocking hexagonal plates. It’s theorized that this legendary Pokemon is responsible for the Terastal phenomenon, and hints at it being the third legendary ofScarlet and Violetalongside Koraidon and Miraidon.

Players have yet to see this new legendary in-game, butRedditor Torosiken_ has theorizedthat it may not be a new Pokemon at all. Instead, they think it could be Zygarde due to its hexagonal scales, and its “origin is never properly explained” inX & Y. Torosiken_ notes that by looking at Zygarde’s “complete” form, it incorporates the colors of Koraidon and Miradon on each side of its body.
2There’s A Potential Link Between Mega Evolution And Terastalization
According toknown Pokemon leaker Riddler Khu, there could be a connection between theTerastal and Mega Evolution gimmicksin both regions. Hinting that Mega Evolution may be returning in some form inScarlet and Violet’sDLC, some fans have speculated that if the new area is Kalos-based, the two phenomena may link in some way as they both rely on a crystal-like object: the Key Stone and Mega Stones to mega evolve, and the Tera Orb to Terrastilize.
The Pokedex description for Roaring Moon even hits at Mega Evolution, saying how the primal form of Salamence “has some connection to a phenomenon that occurs in a certain region.”
1The Kalos Starter Pokemon Could Make A Reappearance
On November 10,Twitter user MudkipLeaks listedthe ten regional starters to appear inScarlet and Violet, including Charmander and Scorbunny, who are available to catch inspecial Tera Raid battles by capturing Charizardand Cinderace. Other starters that will reportedly appear arePokemon: Legends ArceusstartersCyndaquil, Oshawott, and Rowlet, in addition toPokemonSword and ShieldstartersScorbunny, Sobble and Grooky.
But the anomaly of the list falls on Chespin, Froakie, and Fennekin, the three starters from the Kalos region. This could either be a strange coincidence or a major hint of what’s to come forScarlet and Violet’sDLC.
