It is an unbelievably busy time for Nightdive Studios as the developer juggles between re-releases and even remakes. Its biggest project right now in undoubtedly the remake of the cult classic FPS/RPGSystem Shock,a long awaited title that will finally release this year after a tumultuous developmentfollowing its successful Kickstarter. While it may be hard for fans hoping for firm release date, Nightdive is helping the wait by sharing a new look at some hacking goodness.
Despiteshowing how gory theSystem Shockremake is going to be days ago, this new look shared by Nightdive is aiming to display the technological mind leaps players will embark upon. The “CYBERSPACE Preview” trailer explores how players will be traversing the trippy landscape of computer networks in theSystem Shockremake.

Players of the original title may remember these gameplay sections but Nightdive’s overhaul is completely unrecognizable from what it looked like in the original 1994 release. The vibrancy of colors with the pulsating music and frenetic movement capture the same sense of Cyberspace that has been arecurring theme in the cyberpunk genre.
The gameplay preview demonstrates the bullet-hell traversal of the computer network by the player-controlled security hacker. It’s a full five-minute look at the gameplay section players will have to master if they wish to destroy crazed AI Shodan. Watching the trailer indicates a very different level of movement when compared to the shooter gameplay of theSystem Shockremake. It’s about fast maneuvering and never stopping to fire the cybershield as the timer goes down.
While Nightdive continues to show off moreSystem Shockas its 2020 release approaches, the studio recently provided new looks at updated PC classics. Along with the new trailers for theSystem Shockremake, the developer also released three other trailers for upcoming remasters. The first is the remaster of developer Westwood’scult-classic PC adventure gameBlade Runner, a spin-off of the film of the same name. The other big trailer was the second teaser forShadow Man: Remasteredwhile the last trailer was for the Switch port ofStrife: Veteran Edition.
With Nightdive Studios heavy in both publishing and development, some are wondering if the remake ofSystem Shockis going to hit its 2020 release. With so many projects coupled with what has unquestionably been a difficult year for the entire industry, it wouldn’t be all that surprising if the long-awaited remake gets another push back.
System Shockis expected to release in 2020 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
