Nightdive Studios released the final trailer and the release date forSystem Shock Remake. The release date forSystem Shockis a relief to fans of the series after an incredibly long and complicated development process.

System Shockis a first-person sci-fi action game similar toBioShock. The original game was released in 1994, setting players on a broken-down space station set in the year 2072. After the success of the first game,System Shock 2was released in 1999. The first trailer forSystem Shock Remakewas shown at Gamescom 2022although the development process began in 2015.

The official release date forSystem Shockis confirmed in the last frame of the trailer to be May 30. In the trailer, fans will see quick glimpses of the nameless hacker using impressive-looking powers and weaponry. The less than two-minute trailer showcases all the different monsters, aliens, and robots the player will need to crush, kill, and destroy, as well as how creepy the space station looks in this version of the game. Fans of the series will also get to hear Shodan, the main A.I. antagonist, set the tone of the game when she utters, “Welcome to my death machine, interloper.” After aseries of delays forSystemShock, fans of the franchise can jump back on the space station later this month. ​​​​​

The trailer itself gives no indication how faithful the remake will be compared to the original, or how much new content will be added. This final trailer is designed to please the fans of the original series as well as bring in new fans that enjoy games likeBioShockor newer sci-fi offerings likeAtomic Heart. With the success ofDead SpaceandResident Evil,2023 is looking to be a milestone year for fans of sci-fi and horror games, not to mention remakes of classic titles. This acts as both a blessing and a curse forSystem Shock. While many fans will be itching for another classic sci-fi remake to play, standing up to the likes ofDead SpaceandRE4is a tall order. Especially a game that looks and feels likeBioShock, which, much likeAtomic Heart, can be a shadow that’s impossible to get away from. Judging from this final trailer, however, it does appear thatSystem Shockhas a chance at being one of thebest sci-fi games in 2023.

System Shockwill be released May 30 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
