Mere weeks beforeThe Super Mario Bros. Moviecomes out in theaters, the movie continues to release small snippets that may give viewers little glimpses of how the plot of the film will unfold, including how Luigi may have potentially gotten captured by Super Mario baddie Bowser, or at the very least, gotten himself into some trouble.In one of the latestSuper Mario Bros. Movieclips, Luigi is seen running away from a skeletal version of a Koopa Troopa, or, as they call them, “Dry Bones,” while holding a flashlight. He eventually runs into even more, which could be the driving force behind how he became another one of Bowser’s prisoners.RELATED:Super Mario Bros. Movietweeted the clip of Luigi’s chase with the caption, “No bones about it, Luigi is in trouble. #SuperMarioMovie.” In the clip, Luigi is running away from Dry Bones while holding a flashlight, indicating that he was investigating the matter. As he runs, Luigi trips, unintentionally tripping Dry Bones too and messing up its skeletal body in front of the others of his species. After Luigi fruitlessly tries to put the Dry Bones back together in front of its species, they all chase after him, along with the now-beheaded Dry Bones, which may explain how Bowser got his hands on Mario’s brother.
From the start,The Super Mario Bros. Moviepromotional material indicated thatLuigi had been captured by Bowserand his minions, hence why Mario is even going on the adventure in the first place. This clip may explain how that all started. It also may indicate that Luigi was earnestly trying to figure out what was happening and how to stop Bowser’s reign. He may have been running away in fear, but at least he was willing to risk his life to do what was right.
Even though theSuper Mario Bros. Movieclip is only 10 seconds long, it gives viewers plenty to think about. What was Luigi doing down there? How was he exposed? Is this subplotbased on Luigi’s Mansionin some capacity? Even better, despite being what looks like a rather scary chase, the clip also managed to keep up the movie’s comedic tone, as Luigi hilariously tries to fix what he accidentally broke, only for it to fail instantly.
WhileThe Super Mario Bros. Movieshould be a little more cautious about how much it gives away before being released in theaters, it also continues to demonstrate that the filmmakers really put a strong effort into making this movie a fun adventure while also capturing the essence ofSuper Mario Bros.Video game franchises being converted into films and television shows have usually not been done well until recent years following the adaptations ofSonic the HedgehogandHBO’sThe Last of Usseries. TheSuper Mario Bros. franchise had a feature-length film in the past, which is still remembered quite infamously by fans. This time, it looks like they know what they’re doing.
The Super Mario Bros. Moviewill premiere in theaters on June 26, 2025.
