Strayis a 2022 adventure game developed by BlueTwelve Studio and published by Annapurna Interactive in which players take control of a stray cat that falls into a city in the far future inhabited by robots. InStray, the player, accompanied by a small drone companion called B-12, attempts to return to the surface and escape the city while exploring a post-apocalyptic world and fleeing from dangerous robots in the process.
A short game with a runtime of six or seven hours,Stray’s 12 chapters are full of adventure, environmental storytelling, and copious amounts of cute interactions between the robot inhabitants of the city and the cat protagonist.The highly detailed world ofStraycontains many secrets and mysteries that are still being discovered and decoded by diligent players that hope to unveil all of the game’s hidden treasures.

One of these details, found by Redditor Mimo_Shikufu, is a clue as to how far into the future the game is actually set, as they find some writing on a wall which, after being translated, hints at the present time being almost 7 million years in the future. A city entirely inhabited by robots without any humans in sight and many other details that point to a futuristic setting are definitely quite clear in the gameplay, but 7 million years is quite the time jump. Such an ingrained and entrenched world is likely to be dark and mysterious – all the more reason for the player to work hard tohelp the cat open the door to the outside and escape inStray.
Of course, there are some issues with the calculations being done here, as fans are unsure that time is measured in the same way by the robots as it would be by humans. For example, players have foundstrange things inStraylike a 16-hour clock, which would throw off the calculation of how many years have passed as well because time is being measured in a different manner.
Either way, it is definitely clear that the events ofStrayare taking place extremely far into the future, though players may never truly know exactly how far into the future.
