“I am so excited to be co-directing my first feature film. I get the chance to work with an incredible cast and crew, and to work with a company like 30West and Aggregate is a real dream,” Wolfhard said. Hechinger, Jason Bateman (Arrested Development), Michael Costigan (Ghost in the Shell, producer), and Jay Van Hoy (The Lighthouse, producer) are slated to produce the film, and production will begin this month in Ontario, Canada. Both Wolfhard and Byrk are native Canadians and seem excited to return home to make their feature film directing debuts.

In 2020, Wolfhard made his first directorial debut with the short filmNight Shifts. Outside of playing Mike Wheeler on thehit seriesStranger Things, Wolfhard is also known for his role as Richie Tozier inItandIt: Chapter Two. Wolfhard also played Trevor inGhostbusters: Afterlife, where he and Bryk (Zahk) starred together. The directing pair also starred together in Jesse Eisenberg’sWhen You Finish Saving the World, which was released this past January. Bryk also starred in Wolfhard’sNight Shifts.

Hechinger is best known for his role as Quinn Mossbacher inThe White Lotus, as well as Simon inFear Street: Part One - 1994. While not much is known about the plot, Hechinger will also star alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven and Ariana DeBose’s Calypso.

Wolfhard and Bryk will seemingly leave their mark on the horror genre withHell of a Summer. It can be hard for many films to find that perfect balance between horror and comedy, however, the duo has other projects to look to for inspiration. Horror comedies such asZombieland,What We Do in the Shadows, andJennifer’s Bodywere received wellby their audiences and can help provide some insight to the pair during their directing process.

Hell of a Summeris slated to begin production later this month.
