In the weeks leading up to E3 2021, one of the most prominent leaks leading into the event was regarding aDark SoulsinspiredFinal Fantasygame from Team Ninja, the developer of Nioh. The game was officially announced asStranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Originduring Square Enix’s E3 2021 showcase, with a PlayStation 5 demo dropping an hour after the presentation ended. The only problem being that the demo’s file was corrupted, rendering it unplayable. After almost two days, Square Enix has finally released a patch making the demo playable to PS5 owners.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Originis the firstFinal Fantasyspin-off title since 2016’sWorld of Final Fantasy. The game is inspired by the world of the original 1987 NES title and follows agroup of heroes summoned to a fantasy world to defeat Chaos. While much of the game’s angsty tone and dialogue has been the subject of many memes following its reveal only two days ago, many fans have been waiting with baited breath to play the PS5 demo ofStranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, given that the tone of the game is a major departure from what fans were expecting leading up to its announcement. Unfortunately, when the demo forStranger of Paradisewent live on the PlayStation Store shortly after the presentation, everyone who downloaded the demo was unable to play it as an error message would displayclaiming that the demo’s file had been corrupted. Now, almost two days later, Square Enix has finally released a patch that allows players to access theFinal Fantasy Origindemo.
The demo forFinal Fantasy Originis live now, and features over an hour of gameplay from the upcoming title including a boss battle. The demo iscurrently exclusive to PlayStation 5and will be accessible until June 24th, however it is unknown if Square Enix will announce an extension for the demo’s availability given the two-day wait for the patch to go live. It is also unknown if the demo will come to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, or PC as of yet, as the game is slated to launch on those platforms too. It would not be the first time a Square Enix product was exclusive to PS5 however, asFinal Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade,Final Fantasy 16, andForspokenare all either console exclusive to Sony’s hardware or timed exclusives.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Originwill release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in 2022.
