Chems, much like food and mods, can be crafted inStarfield. However, much of the better stuff won’t be available until much later into the game when players are high enough level to learn the needed recipes. Here’s a quick guide to chem crafting for anyone who wants to keep a steady supply of drugs handy.

How to Craft Chems in Starfield

First, players will need access to a Pharmaceutical Lab. One can be found in the Lodge’s basement along with every other crafting station in the game. Players can get a lab of their own by making and placing one in an outpost or by installingspecific Hab modules on their ship.

Interact with a Pharmaceutical Lab to open up the crafting screen, which will show all available chems that players can craft using the resources they have in their inventory or on their ship’s cargo hold. The menu will show the exact type and amount of materials needed to make an item as well as the effects items have when consumed.

Early pharmacology projects in Starfield

At first, players will have access to basic chems and medicine. Later on, more types of pharmaceutical consumables can be made at any lab once players complete enough research projects.

Additional crafting recipes can be unlocked at a Research Station. Interact with one and check the Pharmacology tab for all available projects. Here, players can unlock Performance Enhancement and Medical Treatment, which grant access to items like Amps andhealing items like Infused Bandagesrespectively.

The higher tiers of these research projects only become available once players spend points into the Chemistry skill under the Science tree. Getting this skill to max level unlocks all chem recipes inStarfieldwhile also giving every successful craft to yield triple the amount of items created.

Crafting chems is a great way to be prepared for every situation. The buffs they provide are limited but often very helpful. Some chems like Pick-Me-Up increase the player’s carrying capacity significantly, while meds like Hippolyta can greatly increase the chances of successfully persuading people during those crucial moments in certain quests. Excess materials can also be turned into chems and sold for a profit.
