The apparent plot of the upcoming Disney Plus seriesStar Wars: Ahsokajust got a little more interesting, as a casting rumor now hints at a pretty significant plot detail. A returning character appears to be playing an important role in the new show, and it suggests a rather unexpected twist regarding one highly-anticipated villain.
Given how Rosario Dawson’sAhsoka Tano is already rumored to return toThe Mandalorian, it makes sense that the two shows would continue to share a connection throughout their respective runs. In this case, that connection seemingly relates to another character seen in Ahsoka’s first episode of the latter series. As the former Jedi is off on her own after the events ofThe Clone Warsand the originalStar Warstrilogy, she is seen going after Grand Admiral Thrawn, who disappeared at the end of the seriesStar Wars Rebels. She does this by way of a former magistrate.

According to a rumor fromMakingStar Wars, the magistrate will be making a significant appearance inAhsoka. The scoop site reports that, based on several unconfirmed sources, the character Morgan Elsbeth will be featured prominently in the entire series. InThe Mandalorian, Elsbeth was played by actress and stuntwoman Diana Lee Inosanto. She was established as a strong connection to Grand Admiral Thrawn and one who likely knows where he is. While she was defeated in her one-episode appearance, her time with the franchise may not be over yet.
Whilethe casting of Thrawn continues to defy expectationsand any confirmations, he will likely show up in theAhsokaseries. But now, thanks to the rumor regarding Morgan Elsbeth’s return, fans have a better idea of how it might play out. Elsbeth played a prominent hand in the construction of the Imperial Navy during the reign of the Galactic Empire and even afterward under the patronage of Grand Admiral Thrawn. So her return could hint at an unexpected plot element.
MakingStar Warsfurther reported on the rumor, saying it speculates that Elsbeth’s time on the earth Corvus was spent mining resources from the planet to build a ship capable of bringing Thrawn back from wherever he ended up. This indicates another possibleconnection betweenAhsokaandRebels, as the latter’s finale saw the main character Ezra Bridger defeat Thrawn by jumping them through hyperspace to an unknown location. However, it seems that Elsbeth may know where he is, intending to pull off a rescue mission of her own while Ahsoka continues to search for Ezra.
It’s unclear if this means Elsbeth will work on her own or with Ahsoka in a mutually beneficial arrangement, especially since she may be the former Jedi’s best hope of finding Thrawn and Ezra. But this may be the focus of the entire series, perhaps ending with a climax where they finally find them both. It would also be a nice setup forthe rumored Ezra Bridger spinoff. Either way, it’s worth taking this rumor with a grain of salt since it’s currently unverified. But it’s certainly exciting to think about.
Star Wars: Ahsokais set to premiere on Disney Plus in mid-to-late 2023.
