Since the release of the record-breakingSpider-Man: No Way Home, which acted as the conclusion to Tom Holland’s Spidey trilogy, fans have been wondering what’s next for Peter Parker and his journey within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, the Sony chairman has provided an update on what fans might be able to expect.
With the end ofSpider-Man: No Way Homeleaving Peter Parker all alone as Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Stephen Strange erases him from the memory of everyone who once knew and loved him, many have come to wonder who from the trilogy’s cast will return forSpider-Man 4.Sony’s former executive Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige have both previously confirmed that theSpider-Man 4film is comingto the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that studio is “actively beginning to develop where the story heads” for the upcoming film.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Tom Rothman, the chairman of Sony’s Motion Picture Group, expressed his hopes for the future of theSpider-Manfranchise. He expressed the eagerness the studio has to start working on the character’s next adventure and when asked by the interviewer if Holland, Zendaya, and director Jon Watts would be a part of the continuation, Rothman responded, “That whole group, we hope.” He went on to talk about the future films being added to Sony’sSpider-ManUniverse,like the highly anticipatedMadame WebandKraven.
This update about what’s going on behind the scenes in regard to theSpider-Man 4film teases what may come in the future and that concrete confirmation about who will appear in the upcoming film may be on the way soon. However, Holland has expressed that he wanted a slight break before suiting up as the web-slinger again, and that break has been granted. So there’s a possibility that the film could start production later than sooner. There have also been talks aboutthe return of Zendaya’s MJ, the debate has been that bringing her character back to the MCU may undo the stakes of what occurred inNo Way Home, and there have also been theories that with MJ out of Peter’s life, the door is open for the character Gwen Stacy to be introduced within the next film.
Director Jon Watts' return to the franchise is also up in the air, following his choice to no longer direct the MCU’s upcomingFantastic Fourfilm. However, the director has worked on allthree of Holland’sSpider-Manfilms, and they’ve all been well received by critics and audiences, so the chances of him coming back to the franchise aren’t that far-fetched.
Although it’s early and nothing has been set in stone, fans and Sony’s own studio officials are hoping to see Holland’s Peter Parker and his friends return for another web-slinging adventure. And the chances of that becoming a reality continue to grow as more information continues to emerge.
