Raijin

Still, not every god is Cthulu— some gods are even stronger. Mages are important in the game and some of them have ultimates that have to be seen to be believed. Still, even here not all gods are created equal, and some are just a bit better than the rest.

Updated December 13th, 2021 by Russ Boswell:When it comes to thebest mages in Smite, some players choose their character by how useful their Ultimate ability is. Some of the best mages in the game have Ultimate abilities that are capable of completely changing the tide of battle, winning team fights or blocking enemies from progressing. As Smite continues to change and characters are buffed and nerfed, some Gods see a decrease in usefulness overall but their Ultimate abilities usually can’t be underestimated. To shine a better light on thebest mages in Smiteand showcase some of their Ultimates, the following list has been updated to include even more entries.

Janus

13Raijin - Taiko Drums

Does anyone else think Raijin would bea boss atTaiko no Tatsujin? What makes Raiijin’s Taiko Drums such a great ultimate is its intense damage output. Especially if players can manage to land all three drum strikes there’s basically no way enemy gods will be alive at the end. Plus, there’s a cool achievement for hitting an enemy at max range with the attack!

12Janus - Through Space And Time

Janus’s ultimate offers some serious utility for teams that can’t be overlooked. The portals it creates can help teams ambush or retreat as necessary while the energy ball she shoots out can seriously damage enemy gods.

The only big downside is that this attack can’t manage to deal more than 75% of any god’s maximum health as damage so it can’t usually be a finishing blow by itself. Still, his immunity to Crowd Control when firing it off helps balance this out a bit.

Ao Kuang

11Ao Kuang - King of the Eastern Seas

Ao Kuang’s ultimate is seriously powerful, but a bit complicated. This makes it hard to get the most out of the ability at times. Plus, it only hits one enemy at a time unless it manages to kill them, making it a bit more situational.

If he does manage to kill an enemy God with King of the Eastern Seas, he transforms into his true form, regenerating large portions of his health. He then lands on the ground and deals extra damage to any surrounding opponents. It’s not that it’s a bad ultimate, just a bit more situational than others.

10Baron Samedi - Life Of The Party

Life of the Party would almost be good alone simply due to the fact that Baron Samedi takes 35% reduced damage while it’s happening, but it gets so much better. Any enemy gods within range also are sucked into a vortex which drags them towards the coffin while dealing damage very quickly.

This ultimate gets good if the enemy gets extremely close as any god getting their soul ripped out gains maximum hysteria and results in some crushing amounts of damage. Plus, enemy gods become stunned when this happens, leaving them perfect targets for teammates to pick off.

Baron Samedi

9Isis - Circle Of Protection

Circle of Protection being both offensive and defensive gives it a lot of utility. It can be perfect for casting into the middle of a big fight in order to keep allies protected while making it explode at the last second to take enemies out. It’s a solid ultimate, but having so much utility makes it deal less damage than other ultimates available to mages.

8Merlin - Elemental Mastery

One of the most quirky parts of Elemental Mastery is how it has different effects depending on the element Merlin is attuned to at the time. Certain elements certainly make the ultimate stronger or weaker depending on which one is in use at the time.

The long-term fire damage can be especially devastated, while the slow done from ice might not work unless enemies are running away. Since it’s hard to always predict how fights will go well in advance, this does make it a little bit more situational than other ultimates.

Isis

7Chang’e - Waxing Moon

Chang’e can be a formidable opponent in the right hands, dealing damage and pressuring enemies while simultaneously providing AOE-style heals to herself and all the allies she’s near. Her Jade Rabbit passive keeps her firmly on the battlefield by allowing her to purchase items without having to return to base, giving her the ability to stay close to her allies at all times, moving where she’s needed without wasting time.

Her ultimate ability is great thanks to its speed, allowing her to throw out a wide beam that does heavy damage to any enemies it hits but also stuns them for one second. This stun duration stacks for each enemy God that’s hit, moving to a maximum of 5 seconds should she strike every God possible during a team fight.

Merlin

6Hera - Argus The Defender

Having someone there to defend Hera in battle is absolutely awesome. Having said person stay on the field for a whopping forty seconds is beyond marvelous. When Hera brings Argus crashing down onto the battlefield,it’s time to get down to business.

He does have a bit of a leash, only being able to go so far from Hera. Plus, the player using Hera needs to balance recalling him or sending him out to target specific enemies to get the most out of him. Still, his attacks are incredibly impressive, and even if undirected he can cause some serious havoc.

5Poseidon - Release The Kraken

Poseidon can be pretty devasting if built correctly and in the right hands he’s capable of completely dominating a team fight thanks to his powerful spells. Players who fail to target the Oceanic God will find themselves Kraken Food, especially if he manages to land his ultimate ability.

Release the Kraken is a large AOE ultimate that spawns a massive Kraken from under the ground, causing the beast to sprout up and knock any enemies cause in its grasp into the air, stunning them. The skill slows any Gods unfortunate enough to be caught in its radius and does hefty damage. It’s a very fast Ultimate, easily catching most players off guard and can be invaluable in a team fight thanks to its damage potential and stun locking ability.

4Kulkulkan - Spirit Of The Nine Winds

Kulkulkan’s ultimate is very straightforward, but the Spirit of the Nine Winds doesn’t need to be complicated to be powerful. It deals extreme and consistent damage when it’s going while knocking enemies to the side in the process. It’s an amazing way to lead the charge into battle and can easily take down gods that face it unprepared. He’s an easy god to pick upand it’s worth doing so for this ultimate.
