When it comes to video game directors, none are quite as prolific as Todd Howard whose work onSkyrimand the otherElder Scrollsentries made him a household name, so someone has made him into a staff forTES5. While the idea of being a celebrity is not too common in the gaming industry,Todd Howard is undoubtedly the face of Bethesda, typically the go-to guy in charge of hyping up all things related to what the studio is currently working on.

Going down as one of the most successful and greatest open-world games of all time, especially in the fantasy RPG genre,Skyrimcontinues to enjoy a legendary status, despite it releasing more than 11 years ago. While Howard and his team are making headway on newer projects, a lot of fans tend to think of the fifth installment in theElder Scrollsseries as the one that best exemplifies what Bethesda is all about.

As such, someone decided to honor Howard by adding him intoSkyrim. Only, he isn’t present as just a regular NPC. Instead, Nexus Mods user kbjwasd has immortalized the gaming director in a unique way, by turning him into a useable staff. Simply called the “Todd Staff,” this mod is a little custom addition to the game, which can be forged using one iron ingot, four steel ingots, and three leather straps. Images on the download page show that the staff is just a stick, but it bears a cubed face of Todd Howard with what can only be described as a nonplussed facial expression. The magic item is even given the description, “it just works,” a reference to a memed slogan attributed to the man himself, and a video shows that when the staff is used, Todd’s famous saying can be heard.

Over the past decade or so, there have been some prettybizarre mods forSkyrimthat have surfaced. For every tweak to the visuals or improvement to the UI, there’s one that turns all the game’s kids into potatoes or one that lets the Dragonborn trip on Skooma. At least modders are trying to keep things interesting while everyone waits forThe Elder Scrolls 6.

Until then,Bethesda is busy finishing upStarfield, the developer’s upcoming sci-fi RPG that’s due to release on September 6. After that, many will be hoping that the studio or parent company will give an update on what’s happening withTES6, but it sounds like it could still be a long time until fans get to play it. In the meantime, there are all those weird mods forSkyrimto check out.
