Just as Disney is ready to releaseits first Marvel show on Disney PluswithWandaVision, they have released the first look at a very different superhero story. The first trailer for the family superhero adventureFlora and Ulysseshas dropped featuring the titular superpowered squirrel named Ulysses.
The movie isbased on the best-selling children’s bookof the same name written by Kate DiCamillo and illustrated by K.G. Campbell. It tells the story of a young girl named Flora who spends her days reading her favorite comic books until she adopts a young squirrel named Ulysses who happens to have superpowers of its own.

This is the latest feature film that has beenmade exclusively for a Disney Plus release. It will be directed by Lena Khan from a script written by Brad Copeland. The trailer showcases the cast that includes Alyson Hannigan and Ben Schwartz as Flora’s parents, Danny Pudi as a villain chasing down the super squirrel, and newcomer Matilda Lawer as Flora.
With all the high-profile releases recently announced for Disney Plus, including some highly-anticipated Marvel andStar Warsprojects, a movie like Flora and Ulysses seemed to slip through the cracks. However, this could be the perfect streaming movie for Disney Plus as the platform is likely looking for new content to draw in that younger audience. Interestingly, Disney seems to be taking advantage of their ownership of Marvel characters for this movie as well. The trailer shows Florareading about such Marvel superheroesas Iron Man, Black Panther, and Ms. Marvel. It will be interesting to see how prominent of a role this plays in the overall movie.
Though a movie about a superpowered squirrel might seem too childish for some viewers, the trailer does a stellar job of selling this family-friendly adventure. It has a definite charm to it and the CGI super squirrel is convincing enough that it could giveBaby Yoda a run for his moneyas the newest adorable Disney creature. With the clever way of tying the movie to the Marvel heroes, this could be a Disney+ project that ends up surprising a lot of people.
