Rumors regarding Capcom’s plans to release a newResident Evilgame in 2021 have grown over the past few months. Those rumors have grown into an incredible leak, with the 2021 title now reported to beResident Evil 8. The game will be a first-person title likeResident Evil 7, but will be much more of a departure for the franchise than even RE7 was. As an example of this, the leaker has described one ofResident Evil 8’s gameplay sequences.
According to leaker AestheticGamer, a gameplay demo was used for aResident Evil 8"ambassador" test. Capcom invited fans to be a part of theResident Evilambassador programin late 2018, in which they’d get to try out “a playtest session of our unannounced title.” This playtest was apparently forResident Evil 8and involved a wild sequence in which the player finds themselves in the midst of a castle siege. The attacks are made up of “Beast Men, zombies in armor with swords, and a Witch that laughs a lot.”

During the sequence, the Witch will send swarms of insects at the player. If they reach far enough in the sequence, the waves of enemies will be too much and the player will be forced to barricade themselves in. This is all because the player trying to reach the “safety of the castle,” though there are likely any number ofResident Evilbad guyswaiting inside.
The sequence evokes the opening cinematic of the originalResident Evil, during which Bravo team is attacked by ferocious monsters and is forced to take refuge in the mansion where theoriginalResident Eviltakes place– though clearly a castle siege of sorts is much different than running through a field and into a mansion.
AestheticGamer refers to this sequence as an example of how the game still features more traditional action sequences, though obviously the sequence sounds unique in style to theResident Evilfranchise. This sequence stands in contrast to the waysResident Evil 8has previously been described, with “occultism” and “hallucinations.”
It bears repeating that all of the information regardingResident Evil 2021, now reported to beResident Evil 8, is not official. A single leaker compromised the majority of the information aboutResident Evil 8. That leaker has proven accurate regarding Capcom news in the past, but that doesn’t mean their current information is accurate. And even if it is accurate now, that doesn’t mean it’ll be accurate when Capcom eventually reveals the game, so take these details with a grain of salt.
