After its initial announcement asDragon Ball Project Zin January, Bandai Namco has been slowly dropping bits of information and gameplay for what is nowDragon Ball Z: Kakarot. However, not everything that has been released has been as wholeheartedly accepted by fans of the series as news of the various arcs revealed for the game, likeMajin Buu.
When the box art was officially released forDragon Ball Z: Kakarot, many fans took to their various forms of social media to complain about the cover’s simplistic design. Those complaints may have been heard, since according to a translation of the most recent V-Jump, it seems as though Bandai Namco is currently working on replacing the current artwork.

The direction that Bandai Namco seems to be going with the new box art suggests that the company’s decision to change is in direct response to fan complaints, considering that one of the biggest changes will be the inclusion of more characters. Who exactly is going to end up on the cover is still up in the air, but series favorites like and possibleplayable characters Piccolo, Gohan, and Vegetaare likely to make an appearance on the new cover. All of that being said, this is still only a rumor at the moment and nothing has been confirmed as of the time of this writing.
The only thing that can be confirmed at this time is that Bandai Namco is planning on revealing new visuals in the near future. Most speculation has been drawn towards the rumor that it is an update to the controversial box art that is ready to be presented, but only time will tell if that speculation pans out. For now, there is at least some information and some new art coming from the game soon to get fans prepared for the release in January of next year.
While the simplistic style of the box art that has already been revealed for the game is still hotly debated, if Bandai Namco does decide to update the cover, that is its own decision likely made with future marketing in mind. After all, while no one should ever judge a game by its cover, some bad press and underappreciated art can be bad news for a game’s release. But with news always coming in about the games mechanics and thestory arcs pulled right from theDragon Ball Zanimethere is a lot more to be excited for than there isn’t.
