Finding a PlayStation 5 out in the wild right now is much akin to finding a needle in a haystack. Essentially, it’s impossible. It seems that not even being the director and releasing a high-budget film in a gaming franchise will net oneself a PlayStation 5.Director of the upcoming filmResident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, Johannes Roberts, is desperately on the lookout for a PS5, and the first game he wants to play?Resident Evil Village.
The topic of PS5 availabilitywas brought up in an IGN interview with Roberts for the forthcomingResident Evilfilm wherein Roberts pleaded with the interviewer to help him bag one of these elusive machines. Roberts claims he has been unable to find a PS5 console anywhere, even as the director of the newestResident Evilmovie. Being a huge fan of the series, Roberts rightly wants to experienceResident Evil Villageat its absolute best and so is trying to avoid playing the last-gen version of the title. Elsewhere in the interview Roberts is asked his favoriteResident Evilgame to which he replies the remake ofResident Evil 2, no doubt one of the biggest inspirations for his upcoming film.

PS5, as well as Xbox Series X/S, availability has been a major struggle this past year as chip shortages continue to create console shortages, and it will be just as bad come this holiday season. It’s been known evenactors like Jason Kelley (who voices protagonist Colt Vahn inDeathloop), are having a hard time getting next-gen consoles. Bethesda later caught wind of this and managed to snag a console for him shortly after the release ofDeathloop. Hopefully a company like Sony, who is producingResident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, can find a way of getting Roberts a PS5.
As mentioned earlier, finding new generation consoles by the end of 2021 will be quite the task even as Sony claims that the PlayStation 5 is outselling the PS4 in the same amount of time. Right now, keeping an eye on PS5 restocksand a little bit of luck will be the only way of snagging one of these hard-to-find devices. In the meantime, hopefully Johannes Roberts will be able to realize his dream of playingVillageby year’s end.
