Resident Evil 7andResident Evil Villagepaved an interesting new path for the franchise’s narrative. But depending on how fans feel about the franchise going in a new direction with a fresh cast of characters as opposed to linking back up with iconic legacy characters, it could be exciting to potentially see Chris Redfield return as the main protagonist again inResident Evil 9. That is where the cliffhanger ofVillageseems to suggest the franchise is headed anyway, even ifVillage’s Shadows of Rose DLCteased that Chris will be alive and well 15 years into the timeline’s future.

Further,Resident Evil’s remakes have their own continuity outside the mainline one. This creates an odd separation from the chronology of the franchise and seems to be tackling games in a linear, chronological order, making the next possible remake fairly obvious. Thanks to this new throughline of remakes as its own reimagined continuity,a fan-favorite antagonist from multipleResident Evilgamesseems to be teased for future installments with all signs pointing towardResident Evil 5being the next game to receive the remake treatment.

Resident Evil 4 Remake’s Post-Credits Scene Reveals Albert Wesker

The reveal of Albert Wesker intheResident Evil 4remake’s post-credits cutscene was unfortunately unceremonious since it appeared initially in a leak. Therefore, fans already knew what the antagonist’s updated character model would look like long before the remake was released.

Still, the fact that this leak can now be confirmed legitimate is fantastic for the franchise since it would seem to evidently suggest thatResident Evilremakes are long from being over. The next two mainlineResident Evilgames would seem like the obvious choices for Capcom to remake next since it has been going in order of its numbered mainline entries thus far, but it would also be phenomenal toseeResident Evil Code: Veronicareceive the modern reimagining that it deserves.

Remake fans are familiar with Claire Redfield fromResident Evil 2, and with Wesker teased now it would be exciting to introduce him officially inCode: Veronicaalongside the reintroduction of Chris Redfield, where their shared animosity started. However, this would demand that the remakes leap backward in time instead of forward, which deviates from the remakes’ chronological timeline.

Resident Evil 5 Remake Seems Like a Shoo-In After Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 4’s post-credits scene in question echoes a scene fromResident Evil 4’s non-canon Assignment Ada campaign, though this time it shows Ada blatantly turning against Wesker at the last minute and ordering the helicopter pilot to change course. It is unclear what effect this choice will have on the future of the franchise, but based on how in-detail theResident Evil 4remake’s post-credits scene is with a reveal of Albert Wesker and his new actor, it would be absurd to never see him appear again.

Capcom would have had to know that a reveal this large would elicit fans’ excitement, and that will need to be fulfilled with his appearance in another game. There are already firm foundations in place that Capcom can use to begin developing aResident Evil 5remake, such as how NPC companions are designed in theResident Evil 4remake, and this post-credits reveal is its most explicit tease for what is to come. Likewise, this would mean the franchise could be returning to co-op, and the game could behave likea remake-sequel forResident Evil 3’s Jill Valentine.

Resident Evil 4is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
