Summary

Red Dead Redemption 2, set in 1899, offers a tale of the downfall of the Van der Linde gang as law and order takes over the Wild West. Although the gang is a ragtag bunch of criminals, together they form a family that helps each other. Each member has a role to play in the gang.

For Simon Pearson, his job is to handle the gang’s food. It’s not an easy job, and it can’t be done without Arthur Morgan helping out by providing supplies. InRed Dead Redemption 2’s sequel, Pearson’s job should be handed over to players, and cooking should be another chore to be done back at camp.

Pearson is the camp’s cook inRed Dead Redemption 2. He has a jolly personality, and he takes his cooking very seriously. When Arthur goes out hunting, he can donate some of his spoils to Pearson, who uses it for the stew the gang eats. Eating the stew gives Arthur a golden health core, increasing his overall health.

The stew isn’t cooked daily, so players should take advantage of it when it is available. That isn’t the only thingPearson is good for inRDR 2either. Give him the right raw materials, and he will craft upgrades for Arthur and the camp, including satchels and camp decor.

When the gang disintegrates, Pearson leaves along with Mary-Beth and Uncle. He finds a new life running a general store in Rhodes and marries a woman named Ethel.InRDR 2’s epilogue, John Marston can visit Pearson in the shop.

There are plenty of chores to complete at camp inRDR2,including chopping wood, fetching water, and feeding the horses, to name a few. The chores aren’t for nothing, as completing themraises Arthur’s honor. This is desirable, as having high honor comes with some perks, including in-store discounts.

Cooking should be made into another chore for players to complete. It could be turned into a mini-game where players have to get the recipe just right toreproduce Pearson’s famous stew. Get it right, and the protagonist gets a boost to his health core, as well as an increase in honor; get it wrong, and the camp gets a crummy meal. This would give players more incentive to hunt for 3-star animals and to return to camp to feed the gang.

Pearson’s stew isn’t the only source of food inRed Dead Redemption 2. Players can also purchase food in-store, which comes in handy when a stat boost is needed. Food, including fish, can also be hunted and cooked in a makeshift camp, but this has to be done quickly, as carcasses left for too long will eventually rot.

Red Dead Redemption 2pushes boundaries when it comes to realism, and food is just one of the ways it does this. Things could be taken a step further by letting players handle the camp’s meals instead of relegating these tasks to an NPC like Pearson.
