A cryptic message sent out through NeoGAF has alluded to the power of Sony’s upcomingPS5console, and it might mean good news for Microsoft’s Xbox Series X. While much of the information in the message is coded, fans have painstakingly decrypted the wording and patterns to see how thePS5’s specs match up to Xbox Series X.
The information comes from a poster on NeoGAF who goes by o’dium, and has been previously established as a verified developer, who delivered a message about thePS5through a cryptic image of a bird and a poem. These leaks and hints from insiders have unfortunately been anxious players' only source of information on next-gen consoles, with manysystem leaks being falseor exaggerated.

According to viewers who have deciphered o’dium’s message, the PS5 will likely run on an 11 Teraflop GPU, with 52 compute units, that clock in at 1743 MHz. For those who aren’t especially tech savvy and read that as a bunch of random numbers, the 11 Teraflop GPU means that the PS5 will come out to be more than double the strength of Sony’s current PS4 Pro console, and 10 times as powerful as the original PS4. These statistics are likely what is allowing games like the upcomingMartha is Deadto attempt to createphotorealistic graphics on PS5.
Interestingly enough, while the 11 Teraflops is a fairly impressive size for the PS5’s GPU, theXbox Series X’s GPUis expected to outpace Sony’s new console. With the Xbox Series X expected to hit over 12 Teraflops, Microsoft’s answer to next-gen gaming seems to have a slight edge over its competitor. Although, while 1 extra Teraflop seems minor, the difference in power is almost the same as the full power of the original PS4 system that launched in 2013.
This information of course should be taken with a grain of salt, seeing as how it is a leak coming from a cryptic image and not an official announcement from Sony. So, it is something to keep in mind when the PS5 releases later this year and as players are looking to see which system they want to pick up, even if it isn’t fully verifiable. Although, that is assuming that thenext-gen systems aren’t delayeddue to manufacturing issues and other issues that may hold back assembly and distribution of the new consoles.
PS5is set to release during the holiday season of 2020.
