APokemonfan has created new versions of Pikachu imagining what the franchise’s mascot would look like if it were different types. Pikachu has been the face of thePokemonfranchise for decades now, featured prominently in basically everyPokemonvideo game and enjoying a starring role in the long-runningPokemonanime series.
Pikachu first debuted in the Generation 1Pokemongames. An Electric-type Pokemon,Pikachu can evolve into Raichuwhen exposed to a Thunder Stone, and there were plans at one point for Raichu to have an evolution of its own as well. While there have been some tweaks to Pikachu’s design over the years, the Electric mouse hasn’t changed too much over the years, though one fan has now imagined what it would look like as all the different Pokemon types.

Reddit user PhantomLink2782 recently shared an image collecting their designs for Pikachu asdifferent Pokemon types. The first image is how Pikachu officially appears, but then it goes on to show Grass-type, Fire-type, Water-type, etc. versions of Pikachu. Notably, each type variant for Pikachu has a different name as well, with the Fighting-type Pikachu named Combatchu and the Dark-type variant named Hexachu, for example. The art is reminiscent of the earlyPokemonconcept art, with these Pikachu designs easily able to pass as genuine Pokemon.
Game Freak itself has experimented with recreating existing Pokemon as different types. This idea really took off with thePokemon Sun and Moongames, which experimented with Alolan regional variants that gave existing Pokemon brand-new designs and types.Regional variants were used yet again inPokemon Sword and ShieldandPokemon Legends: Arceus, though the recentPokemon Scarlet and Violetgames offered a remix on the idea.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violetintroduced Paradox formsfor Pokemon, imagining what they would look like in the distant past or far future and changing their designs accordingly. Pikachu has notably been left out of these redesigns, which makes sense considering it is the franchise’s mascot and changing its appearance would likely only confuse the more casualPokemonfans out there.
While no official Pikachu variants have been produced, fans can take matters into their own hands and design some for themselves like PhantomLink2782 has done here. OtherPokemonfans have createdParadox forms for Pikachu, and there are sure to be plenty more fan-made Pikachu redesigns in the years to come, especially if the next main seriesPokemongames introduce another spin on the concept.
