The fourth generation of Pokemon introduced many new evolutions for pre-existing Pokemon, adding new life to some forgotten potential party members. These new evolutions remain available in the generations remakes;Pokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearl. One of these Pokemon lines is the Gligar line. Unfortunately forPokemon Shining Pearlplayers, Gligar can only be natively caught inPokemon Brilliant Diamond. Both Gligar and Gliscor, however, can be traded over toPokemon Shining Pearl.

Gligar is a dual Ground and Flying-type Pokemon, making it only weak to Water and Ice-type moves. It additionally resists damage from Fighting, Poison, and Bug-type moves while being completely immune to Ground andElectric-type moves. Both weaknesses, resistances, and immunities apply to Gligar’s evolution, Gliscor.

Updated July 27, 2025 by Renri Seong:Within the Pokemonworld exist many with dual typings. Common examples are Normal/Flying-type or Bug/Poison. However, some dual-type Pokemon may have something unique, like Fire/Water or Ground/Flying. Gligar is a dual-type Ground/Flying Pokemon introduced back in Generation 2. In the fourth generation, Gligar was given an evolution: Gliscor. The following guide has been updated to include more information about Gliscor’s strengths and weaknesses, and whether players should consider making room for it on their team in the Gen 4 remakes,Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearl

Where to Find Gligar

As previously stated, Gligar can be only found inPokemon Brilliant Diamond. In order to find it, players need to search the Sinnoh region’sGrand Underground. It has the chance to spawn in the following types of locations:

Gligar is still a rare Pokemon, so it may take a while to actually get one to appear. After capturing it, though, the process for evolving it can begin.

Razor Fang Location

Like many Pokemon with new evolutions initially introduced inthe Sinnoh region, a special item is needed to evolve Gligar. In this case,Gligar needs a Razor Fang to become Gliscor. This is also just a useful held item to have, as in addition evolving this Pokemon, it gives the chance for the holder’s attacks to cause the opponent to flinch.

Unless players have someone to give them a Razor Fang throughtrading Pokemon, it’s impossible to get one before reaching the Battle Park and Battle Tower in the post-game.Razor Fangs can be purchased with 48 BP at the Battle Park, but there is one available for free. It can be found in thesouthwest corner of the Battle Park map, partially covered by trees.

Evolving Gligar into Gliscor

After getting the Razor Fang, there’s not much left to do. Players just need to give the Razor Fang to Gligar and wait until nightfall. This is when players will either want to get into a battle with their Gligar or give it a Rare Candy.

It just takes Gligar gaining one level at night while holding the Razor Fang to make it evolve into Gliscor. It will become much more powerful and make a great addition to the team of any player.

More Information About Gliscor

Gliscor’s strength lies in itshigh Defense and solid Attack and Speed. On the downside, it has very poor Special Attackand moderate Special Defense. This means while Gliscor might be able to withstand Physical Moves such as Tackle, it’s more likely to faint if hit by a Special Move like Ice Beam. Because of its poor Special Attack, it’s best to avoid teaching Gliscor any Special Moves and stick to Physical Moves instead. Gliscor’s base stat total is 510, which is a decent stat total for a non-pseudo Legendary or Legendary Pokemon.

Speed

Since Gliscor’s Special Attack is its lowest stat, Gliscor can make use of aJolly Nature (+Spd, -Sp. Atk). That extra Speed growth will help it move before its opponent. Alternatively, those who want to use Gliscor as a wall can go for anImpish Nature (+Def, -Sp. Atk)orCareful Nature(+Sp. Def, -Sp, Atk). Its Ground/Flying-type gives it the following type effectiveness:

Immune to:

Electric, Ground

Unlike most Flying-types, Gliscor is immune to the Electric-type attacks thanks to its Ground-typing. Teaching Gliscora Ground-type move like Earthquakewill allow it to deal super-effective damage against sturdy types like Rock and Steel-type.

In exchange for its new resistances, it gains a weakness to Water-type moves and a double weakness to Ice-type moves. LikeGround/Dragon-type Pokemon, if Gliscor gets hit by an Ice-type move, there is a high chance it will not survive thanks to its 4x weakness. One way for Gliscor to counter Ice-type Pokemon is by taking it to the Move Rememberer in Pastoria City. Have it remember the Fire Fang move to give it coverage against its greatest threat.
