Summary
Apart from the constant urge that Pocketpair’sPalworldplaces on its players to venture out into the wilds of the Palpagos Islands and capture more of its adorable Pals, one of its other core gameplay loops involves base building. At a player’s base, they can build various structures, each of which typically comes with relevant crafting capabilities. However, while players can use many of these facilities to manually craft items themselves, the Pals that they catch in the wildcan be employed to work for them at the base while they are gone, but only per the rules ofPalworld’s robust Work Suitability system.
The Work Suitability system inPalworldadds an innovative layer of decision-making to the game’s base-building by requiring them to consider each Pal’s unique Work Suitability traits. While players can certainly learn the Work Suitability system’s rules as they progress in the game, it can still be a bit difficult to get a firm grasp on. As it is one of the most important mechanics of running a base inPalworld, players must know how Work Suitability works in order to maximize efficiency and create a well-oiled, well-managed workspace.

How Work Suitability Works in Palworld
There Are Twelve Work Suitability Traits in Palworld
Once players manage to capture a Pal on their adventures throughPalworld’s Palpagos Islands, they can beginsummoning and employing those Pals to work at their base. However, getting Pals to work is not as simple as dropping them into the base. Each Pal comes with a unique set of Work Suitability traits that will only allow them to perform certain tasks at the base. There are twelve Work Suitability traits in total, and Pals can have anywhere from one of them to five of them, and possibly even more.
Work Suitability traits are static for each species of Pal, so players shouldn’t expect to find two or more Pals of the same species with a different Work Suitability arrangement. For more information regarding a Pal’s Work Suitability traits, players can check the Paldeck in the main menu, which functions similarly toPokemon’s Pokedexin providing essential details about each species of Pal inPalworld.
How to Know Where Pals Can Work
The Work Suitability inPalworldcomes with a slight learning curve, as simply learning which Pals can work at what stations can take some time to get used to. Most ofPalworld’s crafting stations' Work Suitability requirements can be seen in the Build menu. However, the most efficient way to tell what a crafting station requires is for a player to build it and then approach it. Upon their approach, a line of text will appear above the station that indicates what trait it requires. While some crafting stations can be manually operated by the player, many others can only be operated by Pals that have the specified Work Suitability trait.
For example, a Primitive Workbench or High Quality Workbench can be used by either the player or a Pal with the Handiwork trait, whereasthe Crusher can only be operated by a Pal with the Watering trait. To assign a Pal to a task, players need only submit an order at a crafting station and then ensure a Pal has been retrieved from the Palbox that possesses the Work Suitability trait required by that station. The Pal will then automatically get to work once an order is submitted.
Palworld’s Work Suitability system may take some time to get used to, but it creates some interesting dynamics that many other base-building games don’t have in their core mechanics. Furthermore, this unique and innovative system encouragesPalworldplayers to find and capture Pals of all kindsto ensure operations at their base run at maximum efficiency, thus increasing the value of exploration in the game.
