However, when oneOverwatch 2player took a closer look, they noticed a curious thing about this new victory pose. Rather than being full of patient files or other medical documents, Mercy’s tablet had an open game ofHearthstone. Though the dutiful Dr. Ziegler appears to be hard at work, it seems she is actually partaking in Blizzard’s digitalWarcrafttrading card game.
Among the many fans who commented on this cute little detail was Craig from Blizzard’sOverwatchcommunity team. He teasingly speculated that Mercy must be playing an Undead Priest fromHearthstone’snewMarch of the Lich Kingexpansionto “keep the resurrections going.” Fans enjoyed theHearthstoneEaster egg, and praised Mercy for her good taste in gaming.
Other players couldn’t help but noticeOverwatchhad already used a similar asset in the Watchpoint: Gibraltar map. Keen-eyed players discovered tablets found in the shiparea of theOverwatchmapalso hadHearthstoneplaying on them. Some players accused Blizzard of being lazy for reusing these assets on the new Mercy pose, though others believed there was nothing wrong with it doing so, especially on easy-to-miss Easter eggs.
Mercy has been quite the hot topic amongOverwatch 2fans recently. The launch of Season 3 saw significant nerfs to the iconic healer, andOverwatch 2announced a Valentine’s Day dating sim involving Mercy and Genjiwould be available for a limited time. It is possibleOverwatchmight give a clever nod to Mercy’s newly-revealedHearthstonehobby in the non-canon Loverwatch Dating Sim once it is made available on February 13. Either way, it seems Mercy fans have plenty to discuss about the famousOverwatchhero in the months to come.
Overwatch 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
