Overwatch 2is bringing back the popular prop hunt game mode during Season 8. This hide-and-seek mini-game will be a part of theOverwatch 2Lunar New Year celebration at the end of January, and will take place on a brand-new map.
Call of the Hunt is the eighth season ofOverwatch 2. This beastly batch of content includes plenty of new skins inspired by monster hunters, and includes a Battle Pass refresh with new cosmetics to collect. The accompanyingOverwatch 2Season 8 patch also introduces tons of balance changes, as well as Mauga, the new tank hero.
According toa recentOverwatch 2blog post, players can expect the triumphant return of Misfits and Magic, the popular hide-and-seek prop-hunting arcade game mode, along with the Lunar New Year event on January 30, near the end of Season 8. The game mode pits a team of Kirikos with the ability to shapeshift into objects against a team of Genjis sworn to track them down and see through their illusions, with each team alternating between hiders and seekers in each round. This time around, however, Misfits and Magic will take place on the Lijiang Night Market map, with all new shapes for Kiriko to take.
When is Prop Hunt Coming Back to Overwatch 2?
The original Season 5 run of Misfits and Magic was from July 15 through August 10. It returned again during the third week of theOverwatch 2anniversary event in early October, along with the rest of the new game modes that have debuted over the last year. This third run of the event is thefirst timeOverwatch 2has added a new map to the game mode, as it previously only took place on part of the Blizzard World map.
Fans are understandably excited about Misfits and Magic returning. The prop hunt minigame was extremely popular during its first two runs, with many players hoping it would become an evergreen game mode. The fact that it is coming back shortly beforethe start ofOverwatch 2Season 9means Blizzard is well aware of how much players enjoy the game mode, so hopefully, it will return again in the future with even more new maps and twists.
The full breadth of activities available during the Lunar New Year event isn’t known yet, butOverwatch 2teased multiple new skins, as well as the return of the Capture the Flag and Bounty Hunter Deathmatch modes. Players will have to wait until the event draws closer to see the specific activities, rewards, and shop offers.
