Who Is Dragon?

Monkey D. Dragon is the son of Monkey D. Garp, the Hero of the Marines, and he is the father of Monkey D. Luffy. Dragon’s family is very well-known throughout the world. Garp is considered to be thegreatest ever Marinebecause of his bouts with Gol D. Roger in the past. He was also responsible for bringing down Rocks D. Xebec and thus, potentially saving the world.

On the other hand, Luffy is among the most infamous pirates in the world. He is trying to ensure that the entire world knows his name and so far he has done an excellent job. The World Government recognizes Luffy as a serious threat to their existence.

Dragon stops Smoker

One would think that due to having such famous family members, Dragon would struggle to remain relevant, however, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Dragon is considered to be the worst criminal in the entire world. He is the founder of the Revolutionary Army, which makes him thebiggest threat to the existence of the World Government.

Dragon’s Actions

So far, Dragon’s screentime has been very limited and he remains one of the most enigmatic characters in the series. His involvement inOnePiecehas been restricted, but one of his biggest impacts on the story is when he saved his son Luffy, from being captured by Smoker. This incident took place in Loguetown, and Luffy did not know what happened, but Smoker knew Dragon and was shocked to see him there.

Many years before the current storyline, when Sabo decided to set sail on his own, he was nearly killed by a Celestial Dragon. Luckily for him, Dragon managed to save him and over the years Sabo became the Chief of Staff of the Revolutionary Army.

Relationship With His Family

Dragon’s relationship with his family is largely unknown. At some point in his life, Dragon left his son in the care of Garp. Dragon is protective of his son as he saved him from Smoker. But, judging from his decision to leave Luffy when he was still a kid, Dragon prioritizes his goal more than his family.

It is unknown what kind of relationship Garp and Dragon have. It seems that Dragon trusts his father a lot as he was not worried about Luffy’s upbringing under the Navy vice-admiral.

Impact On The One Piece World

Monkey D. Dragon is a name that is feared throughout the world. He aims to free the world from the clutches of the wicked World Government. Dragon’s dream to bring down the organization led him to the creation of the Revolutionary Army. With time, the organization has gotten stronger and due to this reason, Dragon has been labeled as the “World’s Worst Criminal.”

Currently, theRevolutionary Army consists of powerful fighterssuch as Sabo, Koala, Belo Betty, Karasu, Morley, Lindbergh, and Ivankov. With such strong officers, Dragon’s Revolutionary Army poses a serious threat to the World Government. Dragon and co. have already freed several islands from the rule of the World Government, which is an astounding achievement considering how much power the World Government has.

Monkey D. Dragon Smiling

Duringthe Wano Country arc, it was revealed that something tragic had happened to Sabo. After hearing the news, Dragon decided that they would have to confirm it themselves as it could be a ploy to lure out the Revolutionary Army. If something bad did happen to Sabo, the Revolutionary Army will have to take action. They cannot risk losing such an important person and if they do decide to move the World Government will be on its toes. This could potentially result in an all-out war between the two sides and there’s no doubt that there will be loads of casualties.

It is plausible to assume that the Revolutionary Army cannot pull off a win as the World Government is a much larger organization, with more powerful individuals. However, the war against the Revolutionary Army will undoubtedly weaken the World Government, which paves way for Luffy to bring them down and bring an end to their reign of terror. Also, Luffy would be extra motivated when he realizes that something bad has happened to Sabo, as he knows that he cannot lose his remaining brother.

So, Dragon would be setting up the stage for his son to shine and defeatthe main villain of the series. Whether Dragon manages to stay alive until then is unknown, but he would have played a major role in the liberation of the world.
