According to some recent rumors, a newSonic the Hedgehoggame is due out in Holiday 2024. This isn’t the first timeaSonic the Hedgehogproduct has been the subject of leaks, and given how common leaks are in the gaming industry, it probably won’t be the last.

As an IP,Sonic the Hedgehoghas seen something of a resurgence in recent years. The two movies, starring Ben Schwartz, have been commercially successful, the IDW comics are still going strong, and the Netflix seriesSonic Primeis already two seasons in. On the game side, last year’s open-world rompSonic Frontierswas a commercial success despite mixed reception from critics, having dropped its final DLC pack in late September. Meanwhile, the 2D throwback title,Sonic Superstars, is just on the horizon. With all the momentum the brand has right now, it would be the perfect time to add something else to the lineup and keep the Blue Blur’s name in fans' mouths.

As reported by Nintendo Everything, a recent brand presentation from Sega of America was posted online, complete with a slide detailing Sonic’s roadmap for 2023 and 2024. Starting off next year are things the public already knew about, includingtheKnucklesTV seriesthat shares a canon with the films and will see Idris Elba reprising his role, and the third season ofSonic Prime, wrapping up the 24-episode order. TheTailsTubeseries of VTuber shorts will continue to release new episodes on a quarterly basis, while yet another newSonicmobile game will be due out in Spring 2024.

Beyond this point are some much more interesting plans.Sonic Superstarswill reportedly receive DLC, set for an undecided release date, while a new, unspecified title will be released in the holiday season, with some form of a prologue releasing beforehand. Finally,the thirdSonic the Hedgehogmovie, which will feature Shadow the Hedgehog, will be released in December 2024, but again, that was already confirmed prior. All of the above should be taken with a hearty sprinkling of sodium chloride, as those plans could be subject to change at any time.

While the presentation did not reveal many details about the announcements, it does open up plenty of room for fan discussion and speculation. Regardless of whether any of the new stuff is true, Sega has promised to focus onimproving the quality of futureSonictitles, so heedless of what comes next year,Sonicfans should be in for a treat.
