Summary

House of the Dragon–Season 2 has added more dragons to the mix, besides the usual. Aemond’s Vhagar will no longer go unchallenged, as Silverwing, Vermithor, and Seasmoke have joined the Blacks' legions. The Black Queen has raised an army of bastards to take back her stolen throne. Aside from this, the Greens have gained another dragon they can count on in the coming weeks.

Rhaenyra’s half-brothers, Aegon, and Aemond usurped her throne. But currently, she is being backed by bastards with Targaryen blood in their veins. AsHouse of the Dragon- Season 2 heads towards the finale, it is worthwhile to recount all the new dragon and Dragonrider additions in the show.

Updated on Jul 08, 2025, by Bisma Fida:The political landscape of Westeros has drastically changed since the death of Viserys' I Targaryen. Queen Rhaenyra’s party, the Blacks, and Alicent Hightower’s party, the Greens, have gone to war for the Iron Throne. The Dance of the Dragons means that no dragon will be left untouched by the ramifications of war. The Blackshave new dragonsunder their belt and Dragonriders in their employ, which will counter the threat of Aemond and Vhagar. House of the Dragon – Season 2 has brought about exciting changes to George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, and this article has been updated accordingly.

8Seasmoke and Addam of Hull

Seasmoke Zeroed In On Addam

The bond between dragons and Dragonriders is for life, and only death can release either. The fact that Seasmoke grows restless briefly intoHouse of the Dragon– Season 2 is the telltale of his previous rider, Laenor Velaryon’s death. Although the show has refrained from direct commentary on the subject, it is the only way to explain how Seasmoke chose another rider.

In an unprecedented twist, Seasmoke leaves Dragonstone after thwarting Ser Steffon Darklyn’s attempt to tame him and pursues Lord Corlys Velaryon’s bastard son, Addam Velaryon, on the beaches of Driftmark. The dragon creeps up on the Velaryon shipwright and bends his neck to him. After Rhaenyra’s Queenguard informs her the dragon has a new Dragonrider, she flies to confront this person on a beach at Driftmark. Addam says his mother was a shipwright but lies about his father:

Hugh and Vermithor in House of the Dragon.

My father is… no one of consequence.

Addam bends the knee to Rhaenyra, takes Corlys' leave, and vows to fight beside the Queen in the upcoming battles. In the closing ofHouse of the Dragonseason 2, episode 7 “An Army of Bastards,” Addam and Seasmoke stand behind Rhaenyra as she faces off against Aemond Targaryen and Vhagar.

7Tessarion And Daeron Targaryen

Both Dragon And Rider Played An Important Role In the Battle of Honeywine

Besides Vhagar and Dreamfyre, the Greens now have Tessarion in their army. InHouse of the Dragon’s"An Army of Bastards," Lord Jasper Wylde reports to Aemond that Daeron’s dragon, Tessarion, has taken wing.

Daeron, raised by the Hightowers, will join Aemond in war. Tessarion’s inclusion doesn’t sound exciting because she is a nimble dragon. That said, she plays a pivotal role in the Battle of the Honeywine in lore. Because of Daeron and Tessarion, the Hightower win a two-front battle against the Northern and Southern forces on the banks of the Honeywine in the Reach. The enemy lines in the north under House Rowan and Tom Flowers and in the south under Beesburys, Costanes, and Tarlys are routed, and Ormund Hightower hails Daeron as “Daeron the Daring.”

6Vermithor And Hugh

Hugh Claims Vermithor

Vermithor sets fire to dozens of Dragonseeds, or Targaryen bastards, inside his lair in the Dragonmont. But amid the chaos, mayhem, and fire and blood, the Bronze Fury allows Hugh to mount him.The Sowing of the Seedstakes place inHouse of the Dragon’s “An Army of Bastards,” and Vermithor ends up with Hugh, who previously opened up to Kat, about his mother and Targaryen heritage:

She used to tell me I was no different to her brother’s boys: Viserys and Daemon.

When Rhaenyra arranges rowboats to ferry Targaryen bastards to Driftmark, Hugh takes up the call, thinking it’s one way to undo months of injustice they faced living under the Greens in King’s Landing. Hugh may not be a highborn, but he has the blood of the dragon.

5Silverwing And Ulf

Ulf Rides Silverwing Over King’s Landing

Ulf of King’s Landing self-styled himself as a Dragonseedat the beginning ofHouse of the Dragon- Season 2. Ulf claims to have Targaryen blood. Silverwing taking him as a rider is an attestation to his value as a Targaryen bastard.

Ulf escapes the Bronze Fury’s wrath inHouse of the Dragon’s “An Army of Bastards.” He runs away with a torch and stumbles upon Silverwing. To Ulf’s surprise, the dragon that once belonged to Good Queen Alysanne Targaryen takes him as a rider. Ulf, in the closing ofHouse of the Dragon’s “An Army of Bastards,” goads the Greens, specifically Aemond, inside the city. He flies to King’s Landing, to stimulate Aemond’s reaction, who, expectedly, chases him atop Vhagar. Aemond makes a quick U-turn near Dragonstone when he sees Rhaenyra surrounded by new dragons and Dragonriders. They would be Ulf and Silverwing, Hugh and Vermithor, and Addam and Seasmoke.

4Sheepstealer And Rhaena Targaryen

Rhaena Seeks The Wild Dragon

After Lady Jeyne Arryn shuts the doors of the Eyrie on her guests, Rhaena deliberately trails behind Princes Aegon and Viserys. She cuts into the meadows of the Vale, looking for signs of the wild dragon (highly likely Sheepstealer) that purportedly came there ranging for food.

Rhaenyra’s sons are given berths on the cog - the Gay Abandon, and are to be fostered by Prince Reggio. Rhaena too has a place on the cog, but she’d rather die a Dragonrider’s death than await the war’s climax, tucked away in Pentos. She spots more bones and a scorched patch of land and runs deeper into the wilderness. Since Nettles is out of the picture, Rhaena will get to claim the wild dragon, Sheepstealer, inHouse of the Dragon’s finale.

3Stormcloud And Prince Aegon Targaryen

The Blacks' Hope For The Future

Aegon the Younger is bound to Stormcloud in lore as well as inHouse of the Dragon. Stormcloud is a nimble dragon at this point in the story, and he has yet to fly. Stormcloud was sent with Prince Aegon to the Vale under the protection ofLady Jeyne Arryn.

Stormcloud watches Aegon play with his toys and is currently of no use to the Blacks. It remains to be seen if he will survive the impending attack on the Gullet.

2Tyraxes And Joffrey Velaryon

The Young Dragon Was In The Vale

Tyraxes isPrince Joffrey Velaryon’s small dragon. He is kept inside a kennel to be taken to the Vale with Joffrey, Rhaena, and the rest. Rhaenyra promises Lady Jeyne a dragon in exchange for her support but sends two small dragons because she cannot spare a fighting dragon yet.

Lady Jeyne sees little worth in Stormcloud and Tyraxes because the dragons are vulnerable. There’s still time before Stormcloud and Tyraxes can take wing.
