The Alluring Heroine
The R-Rated Hero, Midnight is a fan favorite in the world of My Hero Academia. Her role as a teacher at U.A. High Schoolplays an important part in shaping the potential heroes of the future. Her unorthodox methods of teaching students may seem odd, but it proves a point. With her dominatrix-like outfit and candid discussions about heroism, she promotes an environment of honest and open discussions. This highlights the nurturing side of her and compliments her bold personality. Midnight was also a key person when it came to Class 1-A’s opportunity to come up with hero names for themselves. She made sure that the students chose names that suited their quirks and personality.
Although Midnight may come off playful, when it comes to the heat of the battle, she always strives to ensure that her students and fellow heroes are protected. She is also someone who is easily excited by chivalry and strategic plans that surprise her. This is seen when Minoru Mineta usedstrategy to distract and avoidher during one of the school games to win the game. Midnight is also confident in what she wears and is not afraid to be herself. She is able to communicate exactly how she feels when it comes to certain things, such as her costume. She mentions that heroes wear revealing costumes to make full use of their quirks, and also talks about how her previous hero costume (which was extremely revealing)sparked the institution of hero costumeregulation. However, Mt. Lady seemed to think otherwise and passed Midnight’s excuse to dress that way as her means of gaining attention for herself.

Midnight’s “Somnambulist” Quirk
Midnight’s quirk is known as ‘Somnambulist’ and is a unique quirk that matches her personality. This quirk allows her to grant the power to release sleep-inducing fragrances from her body, which can easily lull an enemy to unconsciousness. This type of quirk allows Midnight to stop her opponents in their tracks without the use of force. Once the fragrance is inhaled by an opponent, it affects the central nervous system and puts them into a deep state of sleep. This is a non-lethal method of subduing a villain and minimal harm is inflicted on her opponent.
The strategic use of this quirk is immense, as she isable to precisely target her opponentsand spread the fragrance to cover a certain location, knocking out multiple opponents at once. Midnight’s tactics and intellect when it comes to battles is also something to note. She is able to make use of her environment by using her weapon - “whips of love”, to push the fragrance in the direction of her opponents. She can also do this with her feather fan to spread the fragrance across a particular area. Midnight’s costume is also an important factor as her ultra-thin fabric suit allows her to generate a sleep-inducing fragrance from her skin. The thin material allows the fragrance to seep through the material.

The Fallen Heroine
A heroine is a woman who is admired for her courage, outstanding achievements and noble qualities, and this is exactly who Midnight was. She was willing to put her life on the line to save her peers and her students during the Paranormal Liberation War. Just like how All Might believed in his students, Midnight also believed that her students had the ability to defeat their enemies, telling them that they all have what it takes to become powerful heroes in the future and to overcome their fears. Before her death, she believed in her students, andshe told them to rely on their judgmentin stopping Gigantomachia.
The death of Midnight in the My Hero Academia series took fans by shock and surprise, leaving them with a hint of sadness as the once so energetic heroine is no longer part of the plot. This highlights the life-threatening situations both heroes and villains are faced with and death is a realistic consequence that arises in the pursuit of justice. Midnight was a heroine who will always be remembered by fans, and her death serves as a reminderthat heroism comes in many formsand self-sacrifice is one of them. With that being said, Midnight was a strong character in My Hero Academia series, not just by power, but also as a strong character by heart.
