ASkyrimmodder has released a morbid immersion mod that adds some grisly details to Bethesda’s classic RPG. AlthoughSkyrimfeatures some mild gore, this mod can help take it to the next level.

TheSkyrimmodding community is perhaps the most dedicated of all time, and is a huge part of the reason the game retains an active community twelve years after release. There’s not an inch of the game that modders haven’t overhauled or tweaked, with some even opting to turn it into a different game entirely. OneSkyrimmod list even turns the game intoDark Souls. While that won’t appeal to all players, that’s the point.Skyrimcan be anything gamers want, and will continue to transform in new and interesting ways for years to come.

The mod, titled “Flies Around Corpses,” was recently released onto Nexus Mods by popularSkyrimmodder MihailMods. As the title implies, the mod is a small immersion mod that adds blowflies around rotting corpses in the game. While definitely gruesome, it adds a small touch of realism to the game that will appeal to many players out there. There are plenty ofSkyrimmodsout there that overhaul the game’s blood and gore systems, and this mod could be great to complement them, with MihailMods claiming “Flies Around Corpses” has full compatibility with other mods.

According to MihailMods, the sounds can be heard in multiple places acrossSkyrim’s enormous map. While the flies can be heard around fresh bones, players will also be able to hear them in caves where predators have brought their victims, as well as posts with enemies' heads on. They can also be found around freshly cut meat or fish, and inside places of necromancy. While the mod is a small addition, it’s clear that plenty of thought has gone into how to make it breathe plenty of life back intoSkyrim’s environment.

Although it seems thatThe Elder Scrolls 6is still some time away, players will be hoping that it remains as moddable asSkyrim. There’s nothing quite like givingSkyrim’s Dragonborn the voice of Nazeem, and it would be a shame if Bethesda removed the chance for players to do so. The developer does seem extremely aware of the impact the modding community has had on the long-term health ofSkyrim, so the signs forElder Scrolls 6modding are looking positive. Players will have to wait untilStarfieldreleases later this year for more news on Bethesda’s nextElder Scrollstitle.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim - Anniversary Editionis out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
