Summary
Perhaps one of the most iconic parts ofMinecraft, though not always for the right reasons, the community mob vote has brought many great (and many middling) mobs into the main game. From new mobs that add more to the environmentto mobs that actively affect many players' routines, the list of winners doesn’t exactly include only positives.
With one of the most hated mobs in the entire game being the result of a community mob vote, the popularity of the vote winners is made of solid highs and tremendous, horrifically deep lows. Knowing which of the winners is the worst and which is among the best is simple.

5Phantom
The Mob Vote Poster Child
ThePhantomis not a popular mob. It is not a well-liked or even slightly liked mob. It is, perhaps, the most hated mob found within the game, even with thedestructive nature of the Creeperand the annoying hazard that is the Baby Zombie. For many players, the game would be better off without this sleep-deprivation hazard.
Perhaps the worst part about the Phantom’s victory is that the unnamed mobs that lost to it have been confirmed to never be coming to the main game. The general idea surrounding the mob may return, but the design itself will never end up inMinecraft, though the various spin-off gamesare viable candidates. While the Phantom isn’t quite as bad as its reputation makes it out to be, the many, many annoyances it brings are more than enough to sour every player that encounters one.

4Glow Squid
Altering The Mob Vote Forever
Another controversial mob vote winner, theGlow Squidis certainly a variant of the Squid mob. It adds a bit of pizazz to the flooded caves found throughout the underground ofMinecraft, as well as an intriguing ink drop that gives a neon makeover to wooden signs, but there’s little else this seemingly mesmerizing mob offers. Mods like OptiFine give the Glow Squid a small upgrade so it is actually giving off light in the water, turning it into a dynamic light source, but beyond that, it’s little more than a novelty.
The most notable aspect ofthe Glow Squidentering the game was how it permanently changed how the mob vote is conducted, as all votes after the 2020 Community Vote are now spread across various platforms. Although the trailer for this aquatic mob suggested some supernatural abilities, it turned out to be little more than fluff. While not the worst mob vote winner, the Glow Squid not doing much of anything isn’t much better.

3Sniffer
A Prehistoric Decoration Choice
One of the most engaging mobs from the mob vote, theSnifferstands out from the rest of the winners right from the start. This prehistoric beast is one of the few mobs that cannot be found normally in the game and requires the player to actively search for places containing Sniffer eggs, and to be the only source of equally ancient decorative plants.
With this strange, giant dinosaur roaming the worldofMinecraft, there’s a level of dedication and knowledge required from the player to find them, making it clear that those with Sniffers roaming their bases definitely know their way around the game. This is the perfect mob for players wanting to put some effort into finding it. The Sniffer adds detail to the world as well as a trophy for well-established players.

2Armadillo
A Mob Best For How It Updates Another Mob
While theArmadillois certainly a cute additionon its own, adding more unique mobs to the Savanna and especially the Badlands, it’s the changes to another popular mob that truly make the addition of the Armadillo special. Dropping an infinite amount of Scute when brushed by a player, the best part of the Armadillo winning is how it affects Dogs.
With the Armadillo Scute as the main crafting ingredient when making Wolf Armor, this eternally sought-after update for the beloved Wolves and Dogs has finally arrived. On top of protective armor for the player’s best friend, the total health the Dogs of has been doubled. These changes, the combination of that health boost and the addition of the armor, finally make Wolves useful when adventuring. After years of the Wolf being perpetually sat at the player’s base or otherwise killed in moments of exploration, the Armadillo has given the Wolf a new lease on life.

1Allay
The Most Functional Winning Mob
TheAllayis perhaps the most useful mobto ever win the mob vote, for both Redstone experts and casual players, along with adding a touch of lore for those searching for story in the infinite world ofMinecraft. A distinct quality about the Allay, beyond its ability to pick up and drop off items at specific locations, is how it can clone itself. This feature would be a wonderful addition to every other tameable mob in the game.
Due to how valuable Allays can be inside player-made item sorters, and with how players interact with Allays, Mojang made them completely immune from any damage from the player that tamed it. No matter the enchantment on the weapon - even if it’s made of Netherite - an Allay cannot be killed by its player. If this ability were translated to horses, dogs, or any other pet that could be harmed by accident, it would change everything. Garnering over half the voting results in both rounds of its mob vote, the Allay is easily the best vote winner in the game so far.
