In the wake of May the Fourth, manyStar Warsfans continue to show their love for the franchise in different ways, but sometimes the people who play some of these iconic characters turn out to be huge fans themselves. For well-known nerd and movie superstar Michael B. Jordan, hisStar Warsdreams made for one of his worst auditions.
People magazine’s reigning sexiest man alive may be at the peak of his career nowadays, as he’s preparing to make his directorial debut inCreed 3and his name continuously pops up whenever new rumors regardingwho could be the new BlackSupermanstart to surface. However, just like it happened for Tom Holland,Star Warsreally got the best of Jordan.

In an interview with the Just for Variety with Marc Malkin podcast, Jordan told the story of how he went to audition for a partinStar Wars: The Force Awakensnearly eight years ago and utterly messed up his chance to star in a galaxy far, far away. According to Jordan, projects likeThe Force Awakensat the time of pre-production can be incredibly cryptic. “Everything’s like super vague; everything is in secret,” he said, meaning he couldn’t really get a grasp of his character and definitely ended up bombing his audition.
J.J. Abrams’ style surely marked theStar Warssequel trilogy with its fair share of problems, althoughThe Force Awakensdid show plenty of promiseat first thanks to secondary characters like Finn and Poe. All things considered, Finn’s role was quite diminished in the other two films, so in hindsight, everything turned out fine for Jordan.
The Force Awakenspremiered only a few weeks after the firstCreed, which truly launched Jordan into stardom after his appearance in the last disastrousFantastic Fourmovie. Jordan was universally acclaimed for his role as Adonis Creed and his training would definitely pay off a couple of years later when he played Killmonger inBlack Panther, so much so that some fans would really love it if he were tocome back toBlack Panther:Wakanda Forever.
Despite clinching his first superhero parts in Marvel’s universe, maybe destiny wants Jordan to swap allegiances to DC since he’s already lined up a producer role inStatic Shock, another Black superhero from DC Comics. Apparently missing out onStar Warscan be a great thing, at least for Holland and Jordan.
TheStar Warssaga is now available on Disney Plus.
