How to Counter Blob
Blob is easy to counter, which is likely why he isn’t a major force in the meta. Since opponents usually hold onto Blob in hand,Leech is one of the best ways to shut him down. But if you want to prevent him from ever dominating the board, Shadow King and Shang-Chi are solid alternatives.
Shadow King wipes Blob’s absorbed Power, reducing him to a six-Cost, zero-Power card—a devastating setback for your opponent. Shang-Chi, meanwhile, outright destroys Blob and any other card with 10+ Power. If you have priority and can predict Blob’s placement, you may also stop him with Alioth or Cosmo.
The Past, Present, and Future of Blob
Blob Change Timeline
Blob was one of the biggest releases of 2023, a card that was rightfully called a meta-breaker. But soon after its launch, the devs realized their mistake and hit him with a noticeable nerf. Blob, who could absorb all deck cards’ Power with no cap, was given a limit of 15—or more.
The way Blob’s nerf worked was that he would stop eating cards from the deck chronologically until he got 15 Power. The catch was that if the first card he ate had, say, 10 Power and the second had 20, he’d still grow into a 30-Power giant. But if the first card had 10 Power and the second had 5, Blob would be satisfied with the 15 Power and stop merging. In short, his Power became more RNG-based.
After the initial nerf,SNAPdevs figured Blob is still unstoppable and carries the potential to break the meta. So, in a precautionary attempt, they decreased Blob’s Power absorption limit to 13 (from 15). In exchange, they removed hisOngoing ability, which stopped him from being moved.
It’s been a while since Blob has been reworked. And the future ofSNAP’s metagame doesn’t look threatening for this once-feared character. Blob will most likely remain the card it is today, and it’s hard to imagine any nerfs or buffs in the near future.
