Since Miles Morales was bitten in a subplot fromMarvel’s Spider-Man, players have wanted to experience gameplay with both Miles and Peter Parker as Spider-Men. Of course, Insomniac Games has already tested these waters inMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales' introductory tutorial, where players subdue RAFT escapees as Miles while an AI NPC of Peter’s Spider-Man battles Rhino in the streets.
But withMarvel’s Spider-Man 2in mind, Insomniac may have these sequences be more frequent, with both Spider-Men fighting crime in the city at the same time. It has already been officially confirmed thatMarvel’s Spider-Man 2will be singleplayer, so fans have hypothesized how the two Spider-Men may be interconnected through gameplay. Recently, fans have come up with interesting ideas for how the two could be separated but still run into one another from time to time.

PineappleTargaryen inquires into the idea ofPeter and Miles interacting in the open worldbetween specific missions. This would suggest that as either Peter or Miles, the player could happen upon the other Spider-Man while aimlessly traversing the city or engaging in the open world’s prolific side activities, with the two even assisting each other. PineappleTargaryen believes it would be a neat change to have the other Spider-Man show up while in free roam, and suggests that “if you’re near a random crime they’ll help you.”

3ACK_ mentions thatpivotal characters fromRed Dead Redemption 2have a chance of appearing during free roam to aid the player, perhaps while near one of the gang’s narrative-based campsites. 3ACK_ also states that they would like to see Miles check on Peter at times in free roam, similar to how other gang members inquire as to whether Arthur Morgan is doing alright. Indeed, fans agree that this relationship-building as a natural part of free roam could make the sequel’s open world feel distinct from the previous twoMarvel’s Spider-Maninstallments that Insomniac has developed thus far.
Further, RealEdwardNigma proposes that one Spider-Man could potentially call upon the player’s Spider-Man to help assist in thwarting a random criminal activity. When combat ensues, a “Dual Play mechanic” could occurcomparable to Batman: Arkham Knight, which featured its own character-swap combat system with a “seamless transition of control from one to character to another”. This way, players could demonstrate the expertise in freeflow combat that they have achieved between Peter’s gadgets inMarvel’s Spider-Manand Miles' bioelectric powers inMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Any and all of these intriguing concepts could come to fruition inMarvel’s Spider-Man’s sequel, but players will have to wait to see what free roam opportunities are actually made available.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is scheduled to release in 2023 for PS5.
