Marvel’s Midnight Sunspromises a long narrative with an even longer post-game approach. There may be nigh-infinite activities to engage in throughoutMarvel’s Midnight Suns’ Abbey, and with post-launch characters arriving next year it will be fascinating to see how they fit into the base roster. Characters will hopefully be added with some sort of narrative importance, even if it is a single cutscene of finding the Abbey. Regardless, Deadpool’s entrance will surely be grandiose and shake upMarvel’s Midnight Suns.

The way thatMarvel’s Midnight Sunsteased Deadpool in recent marketingshould only be a small taste of what the character is capable of in-game. Deadpool has already been introduced to players, and the way he interacts with them should be reflected in-game. Many mechanics could be implemented through gameplay, with dual katanas or short-range teleportation considered, but it is most important thatMarvel’s Midnight Sunsiterate on the fact that Deadpool can break the fourth wall and act outside the boundaries that other characters are locked to.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Deadpool Needs Eccentric Card Animations

In comics and other media, Deadpool is capable of escaping the panels that other illustrated characters are typically confined to. Deadpool can manifest whatever he likes at a moment’s notice, whether it is a rocket-propelled grenade launcher or another character. In a game as large asMarvel’s Midnight Suns, Nolan North will surely have his work cut out for him as the Merc with a Mouth introduces potential gameplay mechanics to consider.

If drawn into combat as one ofplayers’ threeMarvel’s Midnight Sunsteammates, Deadpool’s gameplay should be far more unique and bombastic than any other character. Deadpool’s cards, for example, should have static images of the character like everyone else’s cards. However, these images may sometimes unexpectedly become animated, moving in-and-out of the card’s frame itself to talk to the player. Once a card is played, it would be fun to see that card’s Deadpool replace the one on the battlefield or react to being used.

Further, all the Deadpool cards in players’ hands could converse with one another for dominance. The possibilities are clear for how Firaxis could implement Deadpool’s fourth-wall-breaking intoMarvel’s Midnight Suns’ card-based tactics RPG.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns Still Needs to Balance Deadpool Fairly

Deadpool should certainly be the game’s most eccentric character, manipulating in-game features or pestering other characters mid-combat. He does not follow rules, andMarvel’s Midnight Suns’ mechanicsshould not be able to stop him either.

In order to keep other characters fun to use, Deadpool still needs to be balanced fairly. Deadpool could potentially not be a top-tier character unless fully upgraded, for instance, but still fun to have around due to the comedy he adds in every situation. Deadpool could easily be scaled to have as much power as any ofMarvel’s Midnight Suns’ heavy-hitters, though there should still be an incentive to have other characters in the party.

It will also be interesting to see what Deadpool’s friendship upgrades look like, and how he interacts with other party members at the Abbey. Each new character announcement seems to include someone more powerful than the last, and balancing all of them may beMarvel’s Midnight Suns’ greatest challenge, especially as Deadpool is let loose. Deadpool is the first Season Pass character scheduled to release, so only time will tell how he plays.

Marvel’s Midnight Sunslaunches December 2 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with PS4, Switch, and Xbox One versions coming later.
