Marvel’s Avengersis fairly divisive as a live-service game based on a popular IP. Many fans have been upset withMarvel’s Avengers’ gameplay priorities, where there were only a few bosses, enemies, and match types reused throughout its development. More characters were gradually added as time went on, but most labored under the premise of being a clone of another playable character instead of introducing wildly unique abilities. However,Marvel’s Avengersis now closing the book on developmentand ceasing post-launch support after its next update.

This news may be positive or negative based on what players’ experiences with the game has been. It is great thatthe Winter Soldier made it intoMarvel’s Avengersbefore its cessation, but there were apparently many plans in the pipeline for additional content and characters. That may have been too little too late, and Update 2.8 will officially be the final patch to look forward to on March 31. Fans will receive all ofMarvel’s Avengers’ purchasable cosmetics for free in this update, though that may be disheartening for fans who have already paid for their favorites.

Marvel’s Avengers is Giving Players All Marketplace Cosmetics for Free

Marvel’s Avengerssurprise announced that this coming update will include all cosmetic content from the Marketplace, Challenge Cards, and Shipments for free. Because support will end forMarvel’s Avengersin September and purchases involving Credits are being disabled, this is a great boon for players and a commendation for their dedication since launch.

It is arguable that cosmetics are whereMarvel’s Avengers’ heart and soul were situated, with almost all of its frequent content updates involving a new batch of skins for different characters. Likewise,Marvel’s Avengers’ MCU outfitsgave fans of the movies great roleplaying potential. However, it should be noted that Spider-Man will forever remain exclusive to PlayStation.

MCU skins are important to players, and as of March 31 they will become available to everyone. Cosmetics do not only include skins, though, meaning that players will also be receiving each purchasable Takedown, Emote, and Nameplate. Having every Takedown is particularly special for gameplay purposes because players will be able to experience many different active finisher animations that they may not have seen behind a paywall.

Credits being dissolved into Units, Fragments, Upgrade Modules, Polychoron, and DNA Keys is a wonderful way to exchange that currency, and even though support will be ending it is exciting to seeMarvel’s Avengers’ Marketplace paywallterminated. Otherwise, cosmetic vendors will still be available in-game for players to earn cosmetic items that way.

Fans Who Purchased Marvel’s Avengers Cosmetics Get the Short End of the Stick

This is fantastic news for fans who were maybe unable to purchase cosmetics beforehand, and who will now be able to enjoyMarvel’s Avengers’ multiplayerin the look of their choosing. Unfortunately, it also means that anyone who has spent actual money on cosmetic microtransactions is at a disadvantage.

It was obviously not known thatMarvel’s Avengers’ cosmetics would all become free at some point, with fans not expecting the game’s post-launch support to end as soon as it will be. That said, fans who spent money on cosmetics did so of their own free will, deciding that they wanted them at that moment. Yet it’s still unlikely that fans will feel satisfied with their purchases after hearing that these cosmetics are being made free for everyone at a later date.

Marvel’s Avengersis available on PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, but will no longer be purchasable after June 13, 2025.
