Popular manga and anime seriesMade in Abyssis being adapted into a video game. The game is officially titledMade in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness, and is set to launch worldwide on PC, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. Now, after almost a year since first announcing the video game adaptation, developer and publisher Spike Chunsoft has finally given the official release window forMade in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness.
While theMade in Abyssanime series tells the story of a girl named Riko on her journey to find her long-lost mother in a giant hole inside the earth known as the Abyss, the video game adaptation will feature an original story that is written under the supervision ofMade in Abyss’original creator, Akihito Tsukushi. This new narrative inMade in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darknessis told through the perspective of a nameless explorer, who begins venturing into the Abyss many days after Riko’s departure.

On Twitter, Spike Chunsoft announced thatMade in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darknesswill be coming in Fall 2022. The announcement is accompanied by a trailer showing snippets of its 3D action RPG gameplay, as well as the series' iconic take in mixing cute characters with blood and gore. This explains whyMade in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darknessis rated Mature according to ESRB’s standards.
As it has been promised before, the game is fully voiced in English and Japanese by the original voice actors. While not much is shown, the gameplay seems to be focusing on exploration just likethe originalMade in Abyssanime series, with some survival mechanics poured on top of it. The trailer also shows a character creation screen for the original story, with customization options ranging from face types and eye color, to hairstyles and voice.
Based on what is shown so far,Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darknessseems to retain many of the nuances that make the manga and anime series so popular, especially in how the series is presenting the contrast between beautiful vistas and brutal, gory scenes. The announcement trailer isn’t shy in showing all of that, and withSpike Chunsoft’s experience in developing action-filled video games,Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darknessmight turn to be a very good game adaptation after all.
The good news is,Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darknessisn’t the only new content that is being anticipated by fans of the series.A live-action adaptation ofMade in Abyssis also currently being developed by Sony Pictures.
