The following content will include heavy spoilers from Konosuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! Proceed with caution. The Dark Lord/God (not to be confused withKonoSuba’siconic Demon King) has a particular bone to pick with the ultimate enemies, the almighty Crimson Demon Clan. This wicked entity is vilified beyond belief, as anything that goes wrong in the Crimson Demon Village is automatically blamed on the entombed tyrant (even if the true culprit’s identity is unquestionable).
Whether it be a downpour of rain or chuunibyou-fueled Light Sabers, the Evil God is clearly the cause! However, after being sealed away for what feels like centuries, the Big Bad hascaught the scent of freedomas the magical barrier of restraint is beginning to weaken. But why?

A Puzzling Affair
While the Crimson Demon’s sealing stone may be powerful enough to contain an all-mighty Evil God, their security system is rather lackluster, as any random bypasser could easily meddle with the mechanics. Which is precisely what Megumin (and later, her sister) does after mistaking the not-so-complex contraption for an enjoyable puzzle. Thus,Pandora’s Box is now open, inspiring the local monster population to become increasingly more active, specifically targeting the aggravating Crimson Demons in Dragon’s Peak, of course!
The Axis Cult are the primary instigators behind the Dark Lord’s imprisonment, after declaring that the Demon King’s Army General shouldn’t be roaming free. As with Wiz, there appears to be no specific event that proves the so-called Dark Lord to be a threat, other than the (un)reliable word of a hoard of egomaniacs. And yes,KonoSubafans have met this entitybefore, on two occasions so far; during episode 19 ofGod’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!and episode 1 of Megumin’s epic spin-off series. That’s right, the mystical, awe-inspiring Elven Goddess who is the source of Megumin’s Explosion Magic passion is none other than the Dark Lord! But to her friends, she’s just called Wolbach.

The Tomb Of The Dark Lord
While the Dark Lord’s (alleged) influence over the Crimson Demon’s Villiage is rather subtle inKonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World’sintroduction, episode 2 offers more insights into the feared foe’s power potential. The broken seal is essentially catnip for monsters, luring them out of the woodwork and encouraging them to “go wild,” which has elevated the threat levels for the Crimson Demon Village and the surrounding forests. And althoughNEET inhabitants have the skills(and time) to hunt down these monstrosities, the locals are still encouraged not to venture off alone.

Believing the group of girls to find safety in numbers during their excursion, Pucchin wanders off and leaves his class defenseless, considering they have no magic tricks tucked away and their oversized weapons are just for show. Meanwhile, the ornamental gargoyles adorningthe Red Prison Headmaster’s collection have found a way to reverse the petrification process thanks to the enfeebled blockade, and are running rampant and causing chaos for the Crimson Demon Clan. The beastly presence spurs their chuunibyou complex to astronomical proportions, leading the Arch Wizards' bloodlust to consume them as they demolish the entire town (and just so happen to eliminate the monsters in the process.)
Sadly, the anime version of events takes all the credit away from Yunyun and allocates it to Bukkororii instead, who easily defeats a wayward gargoyle with a single blow. However, in the manga, Yunyun is the one who stands up to the colossal beast and, although she doesn’t defeat it, the timid girl defends her friends and arguably saves them (or at least Chomusuke) from becoming gargoyle snacks. Yunyun has become a fan favoritesince joining Kazuma’s partyand is a vital component of Megumin’s origin story. Her act of heroism should have been honored, regardless of how small.

Megumin’s Mysterious Minion
Megumin’s fluffy familiar goes by many names, starting with “supper” (well, according to Komekko), followed by Megumin, then Kuro, and eventually settles on Chomusuke.God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!fans are quite familiar with this cute cat and cannot deny her strange, humanistic qualities and unnaturally high intelligence; however, the reasoning behind this might just blow a few minds. This feline is essentially theKonoSubaversion of Yoruichi (Bleach)whereby her black furry form disguises the sultry sorceress' soul hiding within, after being wrongfully accused of treachery, no less. Chomusuke and Wolbach were once one-and-the-same until the crazed Cult forced them to split into two beings (who have since re-assimilated in terms of theBlessingsstoryline.)
Chomusuke represents the violent aspects of the Dark Lord, sized down into a cute and cuddly form, and should technically be sealed away in the Tomb. However, Komekko unwittingly releases the “demonic” kitty into the world and conveniently introduces her to Megumin.Little do the sisters know, but the all-powerful Lord Hoost is desperately looking for his master’s minuscule minion, whose true form is actually the mighty wyvern-like beast that Wolbach (temporarily) locks away in the opening scene ofAn Explosion on This Wonderful World’sdebut. So, despite all the Crimson Demon Arch Wizards' sensational antics, the biggest players in this game are actually Megumin, Komekko, and their itty bitty kitty.
