For fans of indie games, Superbrothers is a name worth being excited for. In 2011,Superbrothers: Sword & Sorcery EPlaunched and became one of the most exciting releases of the year. Ten years later and Superbrothers has yet to put out a second release. That’s about to change, however.JETT: The Far Shoreis Superbrothers' next title, made in partnership with Tokyo-based Pine Scented Software, composer Scntfc, and JETT Squad 1.0. As part of Wednesday’sGamescom Opening Night Live,JETT: The Far Shorereceived an October 5 release date.
JETT: The Far Shore’s release datewas confirmed via a new trailer for the unique adventure game. The trailer serves as a two-minute dive into the deep end ofJETT: The Far Shore’s entire promise.JETT: The Far Shoretells the tale of escaping a dying world and making a new, strange planet into a new home. As such,JETT: The Far Shoreis about discovery, not just of adventure and wonder, but also of the frightening nature of the unknown and its enormity.

Players inJETT: The Far Shorewill take on the role of a scout named Mei and Mei’s jett spacecraft. Mei will use their jett to explore first their own world and then their destination, a new planet Mei’s people have been pulled to by a strange presence. Players willfly around the planets exploring, interacting in small ways and at times facing down hostile encounters. Mei will also be able to step out of the jet as necessary to explore more intimate settings on foot.
One thing that’s also clearly conveyed by the trailer is that interested players will have to playJETT: The Far Shoreto truly understand what it’s about. Everything about the trailer, from its cinematic sequences to its gameplay, conveys mystery. It’s grasping at players' curiosity as a selling point. ConsideringSuperbrothers' past work, that curiosity is very likely worth following through on.
Superbrothers is perhaps best known for mixingunique and beautiful visuals, particularly surrounding the use of colors, and layering it with captivating audio.JETT: The Far Shoredefinitely seems to continue that trend. The brown, muted colors of the original planet contrasted with the blues and reds to the new planet are especially notable.
Obviously, whether or notJETT: The Far Shoreis a good game remains for players on PC andPlayStationto discover on their own. Yet, just like withSuperbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, there’s something unique aboutJETT: The Far Shorethat makes it stand out from other games.
