Throughout the tumultuous six-week defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, fans have subjected Jason Momoa’s every move to microscopic examination. Given the overwhelming public outrage toward Heard and the fact that he is directly affiliated with her by profession, his followers are naturally curious about where he truly stands with hisAquamanco-star.
While Momoa has not released any official statements addressing the legal drama, his activity on social media has been interpreted by fans as subtle hints indicating his viewpoints on the matter. Most recently, theAquamanstar took to Instagram and “liked” both Depp and Heard’s post-verdict statements, appearing to support both actors and implying a neutral stance.

Fans criticized Momoa’s diplomatic approach to the situation, arguing that neutrality is not the proper response to an issue as serious as domestic violence. Some commenters on social media were particularly upset that he would still support Heard even after the jury reviewed all the evidence and concluded she was indeed guilty of defamation. This isn’t the first time Momoa refrained from choosing a side, either. In the early stages of the court proceedings, hefollowed Depp on Instagramin what seemed to be a way to “cover his bases,” since he had only been following Heard at the time.
At this time, it is unclear if Momoa is acting on his own accord or if he is heeding the advice of his PR team. Considering that his upcoming sequel,Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, has been wholly affected by the libel case, it is possible that Momoa is simply trying not to anger one side more than the other, especially when it is really not his business to begin with. Given thatAquamanis Momoa’s highest-grossing film to date, it would be a shame if the sequel underperformed at the box office simply because of some messy optics on his part. Nevertheless, he is stuck in a lose-lose situation anyway, as several people have already pledged to boycott the film if Heard is still involved in it.
Today, speculation aroundMomoa and Heard’s relationshipcontinues as fans remain curious about whether the two still keep an open line of communication with each other. During the defamation trial, Walter Hamada, the president of DC-based films for Warner Bros, testified in court earlier this month that Heard did not have good chemistry with Momoa, leading to the assumption that their on-screen relationship did not carry over off-screen.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdomis scheduled for theatrical release in the U.S. on June 02, 2025.
