Summary

Intel is preparing for its upcoming Raptor Lake Refresh launch, and details about the Core i5-14600K CPU have reportedly leaked. It is believed that Intel will launch six SKUs in the 14th Gen lineup, including the Core i5-14600K, which will be a 14-core 20-thread CPU. This is the same core count as the current generation Core i5-13600K. The SKU in question is said to be an Engineering Sample (ES), so final specifications may be somewhat different.

The next generation of Intel’s desktop CPUs, dubbed Raptor Lake Refresh, is expected to bring six SKUs including the Core i9-14900K, Core i7-14700K, and Core i5-14600K, along with their iGPU-less KF counterparts. These CPUs are expected to offer only aslight performance jump over the current generationas the name suggests. Intel also plans on bringing new mobile CPUs under the Meteor Lake moniker which could arrive early next year.

According to anew post on Chinese social media platform BiliBilifrom ECSM, it looks like they have in their possession an engineering sample of the Core i5-14600K CPU. The group has shared key specifications as well as some benchmark tests. The CPU comes with 14 cores and 20 threads in a 6 P-core and 8 E-core configuration. The boost clock speed has been increased by 200 MHz as was previously expected, and the Core i5-14600K is able to sustain 5.3 GHz at 160W without using Turbo Boost 3.0 or Thermal Velocity Boost technology.

ECSM also shared some benchmark numbers from Cinebench 2024, Cinebench R23, and CPU-Z. In Cinebench 2024, the Core i5-14600K CPU scored 124 in single-core performance and 1430 in multi-core performance. In comparison, the Core i5-13600K scored 115 and 1255, respectively, which is an 8% performance increase in single-core and a 14% increase in multi-core for the Core i5-14600K. For Cinebench R23, the 14600K scored 2027 in single-core and 25270 in multi-core, which was an under 5% performance increase over the 13600K. CPU-Z saw the same story with the upcoming CPU getting 868 (6% increase) in single-core and 10250 (4% increase) in multi-core tests.

Intel Core i5-13600K

The Intel Core i5-13600K has 14 cores, 20 threads, and a lot of headroom for overclocking. Gamers looking for the best gaming CPU possible, in terms of value, performance, and features will want to start here. Intel managed to not only beat out AMD in the same category but even created a product that’s available to punch up at AMD’s higher-end CPUs.

As suggested by these initial benchmarks, the Raptor Lake Refresh lineup will only bring minor performance improvements over the 13th Gen CPUs. However, it should be noted that the 14600K CPU that was tested is an engineering sample and that final specifications may change. Intel is expected to unveil the lineup at its Innovations 2023 event scheduled for September 19 and September 20. According to a recent report, the Raptor Lake Refresh SKUs will goon sale starting October 17. It is also expected to share more details about its Meteor Lake mobile processors which are expected to arrive early next year.

Speaking of Meteor Lake, these mobile CPUs use on-package LPDDR5X memory similar to what Apple does with its M1 and M2 chips. Meteor Lake CPUs are based on the Foveros packaging technology that allows the company to stack chiplets on top of a unifying base die with a Foveros interconnect. Intel is already using this technology in its Ponte Vecchio and Rialto Bridge GPUs.
