Shadows of Doubtis, first and foremost, a game about solving mysteries. With murderers roaming the streets and cheating spouses to tail, you’ll have plenty to do as you climb the Social Credit Ranks. One of the biggest limiters on your ability to explore and investigate is the cost of equipment, food, and a place to rest. This means making money will be high on any player’s priorities.
There are quite a few ways to make money inShadows of Doubt, with solved cases offering a decent sum and an abundance of items to collect and sell (legally or otherwise.) This guide will break down the main ways of making money and what items to watch out for.

Solving Cases
Naturally,in a game about detective work, you can make a lot of money by solving crimes. These tend to be large bulk sums after submitting a report at City Hall or reporting back to the client, so these funds are likely to be what you use to purchase new equipment and upgrade your apartment. Unfortunately, since solving a case can take quite a lot of time, it isn’t practical to rely on it as your only source of income, especially early on when you’re still getting the hang of things. Additionally, you’ll receive a fine if you submit a report to City Hall that does not correctly identify the culprit, so you could end up losing money if you make a mistake. (You can continue investigating and submit another report, so it’s not a lost cause if you make a mistake.)
The main case will reveal itself through newspapers and other sources of information, and only one main case can be active at a time. Players can also pick up smaller “Side Cases” from the job postings on public bulletin boards, found near phones. These cases are smaller in scope, ranging from photography tasks to investigating infidelity, and can be a good source of extra cash and useful items like Sync Disks.

Selling Stolen Goods
While investigating, you’ll often stumble across items that aren’t directly relevant to the case but could sell for a decent sum.Since you’re likely already breaking and entering, you might as well pick up such items. Diamonds, Disc Upgrades, Assorted Antique or Collectors Items, all of these can be taken to a Pawn Shop and sold for cold, hard, cash. This is a very efficient way to earn some extra cash to use for food and other essentials. It’s important to prioritize the expensive items to make the most of your inventory space.
Items can be sold at a Pawn Shop or by dropping them in your apartment and then selling them in the items tab.
