FortniteChapter 4 Season 1 was the beginning of a new storyline for the game, and it has already laid breadcrumbs for where things could go next. AlthoughFortnite’s battle royale gameplay would not imply a heavy emphasis on story, almost every season has had an underlying theme or storyline. The story of each season is worth looking forward to as much as each new battle pass, particularly since the characters in said battle pass are frequently involved in some way. These stories are often told through missions and help keep the game interesting.

Long beforeFortnite’s crossover-heavy Chapter 4 battle pass, Battle Royale’s storyline first started to flourish after the whole game went offline following Season X. From there, the plotlines began to be a bigger part of the game, complete with occasional cutscenes and events to help tie things together and connect one season to the next. Unlike the weekly mission packs that get added to the game, each storyline mission only unlocks once the player has beaten the previous mission in the line. Sometimes the next phase of a storyline will be locked until a certain date, making players wait until later in the season.

Fortnite’s Next Chapter May Have Already Been Hinted At

The latest season thus far got started afterFortnite’s surprisingly short Chapter 3concluded. Chapter 4 Season 1 had a medieval motif, with appropriate weapons such as the Guardian’s Shield, Shockwave Hammer, and the Ex-Caliber Rifle that fired exploding swords. In addition, a couple of other new elements were introduced that could prove interesting if they return next season. Mysterious ore that could fly long distances after being struck were seen being mined out of Shattered Slabs. In addition, the main conflict of the season revolved around the Rift Warden, whose attempt to create a Rift Gate seems to end with catastrophic consequences.

Chapter 4 Season 2 will certainly deal with the aftermath of the failed Rift Gate opening. ATwitter tease forFortniteChapter 4 Season 2lends reason to believe that the shattering gate created a brand-new version of the island, far different from the medieval-themed world that players have been exploring for the last few months. There are several medieval-themed NPCs worth questioning as well, such as Surrr Burger. Apart from Scrapknight Jules, who is just recurring character Jules with a new set of armor, the other medieval characters are unlikely to return, replaced by new characters who are likely themed for the upcoming season.

Another potential story hook that could be used inFortnite’s next season is the Cold Blooded. Introduced near the end of Chapter 4 Season 1 inFortnite’s heist-themed Most Wanted event, the Cold Blooded are a mysterious group who guarded safes that abruptly appeared on the island. All of their members are hostile on sight, and the leaders are incredibly tough, marking them as a hostile organization. The Cold Blooded seem like a fascinating group of potential antagonists, and it would be a shame if they only existed for one event. Chapter 4 Season 2 could see them rise to prominence inFortnite’s story.

Chapter 4 Season 1 did not end without giving players some idea of what the next chapter ofFortnite’s story could entail. The season-ending event with the Rift Gate’s failure combined with the potentialdowntime forFortnitefollowing the chapter’s conclusionpoints to a significant shift to watch out for once the next season comes along. From NPCs to the island itself, it would not be surprising if players found themselves in a completely new world for Chapter 4 Season 2.
