Destiny 2’s Season of the Deep is in its first Iron Banner week, and while there are many new and old guns worth farming in Lord Saladin’s time-limited game mode, Bungie added a plethora of great weapons with Season 21. Many players are happy to finally get their hands on Epochal Integration, which is the hand cannon that was seen on Lightfall’s promotional material before the expansion came out, and the same gun that was missing from the game entirely. Then,Destiny 2’s Season of the Deepalso brought back popular guns like Spare Rations and provided players with new Taken weapons tied to the season itself, but one of the most notable additions remains the Mercurial Overreach sniper rifle.

This gun is only available when playing Crucible matches, regardless if they are won or lost, but it is limited to the random drop pool and comes with random perks as well, as customary. However, there are several features that make the Mercurial Overreach sniper rifle one of the very best in the entirety ofDestiny 2, ranging from the gun’s own stats to the many good perk combinations on it. What follows is that Mercurial Overreach is rapidly becoming very popular in PvP modes, and will likely see more action next week when Trials of Osiris return after the Iron Banner hiatus.

Destiny 2’s PvP Meta Could be About to Change Thanks to Season 21’s New Sniper Rifle

At base value, Mercurial Overreach is an adaptive frame sniper rifle that drops with 65 range, 54 stability, 52 handling, 50 reload speed, 75 recoil, and 63 aim assistance. With traits like Smallbore or Fluted Barrel and Ricochet Rounds, which happen to be among the most popular for sniper rifles,Destiny 2playersare looking at a gun with all the main stats over 70, especially when using a Fitted Stock and Handling Masterwork.

On top of that, perks like Snapshot Sights and Surplus can be found in the third column, with the former being a long-time fan-favorite when it comes to snipers and the latter being a great option to boost Mercurial Overreach’s good stats even further. The fourth column is also home to perks like Vorpal Weapon, Moving Target, and most of all, Opening Shot, all making this gun a force to be reckoned with in the Crucible. Yet, what makes thisnewDestiny 2weapon in Season of the Deepso unique is a new perk found in the third column: Discord.

Discord is probably the mirror of another perk called Harmony, both for name reasons and proc reasons, as they activate when getting kills with a different weapon. When the conditions are met, Discord provides with increased speed for aiming down sights, accuracy, and airborne effectiveness. More importantly, Discord makes any weapons it is found on refund ammo on final blows, which for sniper rifles will likely remind players of another great relic that was lost to time - Revoker.Destiny 2’s Revoker sniper riflewas one of the most popular PvP weapons when it came out, as missing shots with it would refund ammo to the magazine.

This caused a too-powerful loop in the Crucible, as players could essentially miss all the time and still get enough ammo to score a kill or two. In the case of Discord, however, it only refunds ammo upon landing a final blow, meaning players no longer have a second chance when missing, but they can chain kills repeatedly as long as they defeat enough enemy players with the gun. While it’s unlikely to become the most used perk on Mercurial Overreach,Destiny 2’s Trials of Osiriswill most probably still see a lot of this weapon and Discord too, and that could change the meta.

Destiny 2is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
