Zombies in Dying Light 2
Dying Light 2focuses on giving players the ability to traverse the world using parkour across rooftops. As a result, the world’s zombies are also more athletic, with certain zombies chasing players down and performing parkour moves to catch up. However, the one bigdifference betweenDying Light 2’s undeadandDead Island’s zombies is that the former has a weakness to UV light, meaning more dangerous variants will often only appear at night.
The zombies inDying Light 2also progress through different types, starting with Virals that are faster but avoid the sun to eventually become Degenerates, which are decaying and slow. There is also the Volatile, which is the rarer second-to-last stage of evolution, giving them enhanced speed and strength. This isa stark contrast toDead Island 2where the humans who turn automatically become different zombie types.

Dead Island 2does not possess the same evolution system for its zombies, and as a resultDead Islandhas a larger variety of zombie types. For example, Runner variants include Hazmat Runners, Spiky Runners, Runner Grabbers, and SWAT Runners. Further,Apex zombies are much tougher kinds of antagonistswith unique powers such as Crushers, Butchers, and Screamers - all of which come with their own variants.
TheDead Island 2zombies also do not have any aversion to the sunlight, so players cannot rely on UV light to save them when they are overwhelmed. Instead, the zombie types have unique weaknesses, such as Runners having more susceptible legs. Players need to not only understand how to differentiate between zombie types, but also remember what their weaknesses are, makingthe Zompedia an extremely valuable resource inDead Island 2.
BothDead Island 2andDying Light 2fill unique niches for zombie games, with the former taking a more light-hearted and combat-heavy approach, while the latter focuses on darker themes and escape. This is also shown in how the zombies are designed;Dying Lightgives players more chance to distract zombies or evade them using safe zones, whereasDead Island 2wants players to eliminate as many as they can. While both games have very different zombies for players to kill or avoid,Dead Island 2andDying Light 2still offer enjoyable experiencesfor anyone interested in diving into a zombie-infested city.
Dead Island 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X\S.
